jahad basically comes from the root word jehad which means to strive. So Jahad is striving in the way of ALLAH(swt). Jahad is not only on the battlefield. there are different types of jahad. Even Dawa is kind of jahad. As you are striving in the way of ALLAH to promote his deen.
