We all know that I am knew to Islam....but there is so much information out there that I can't keep up. I can't remember what I read as i read it...and then I have to start over....it is all so overwhelming. Do they not have classes for newby's......along the lines of a christian sunday school? Maybe once the kids and hubby leave for Tunis Monday I can focus better.....I just can't focus right now enough to absorb it. AND......my husband has not offered even ONCE to show me how to do Salah....so I am just praying like I always have. For those of you in Northern VA, would you be able to tell me if there are any mosques or learning centers with lectures/classes in that area. I am thinking I could attend a few over the next month.

I would like to add that as a christian I had issues reading the Bible for the same reason....always seemed like I was chasing my tail......I really just need it to be broken down into simple everyday english so I can absorb.

HELLO sister i hope your family and you are in good health,, inshallah But some times it seem to much but it very simple islam is a type of faith where you never know too much so i would say take it easys understand what your read before you move on. Also you can go on alafasy.co.nr web site and listern to the quran and learn in arabic from that also they prayers you can visit site where they show you step by step what to do also theres lecture showing you also how to perform them. You can visit youtubeislam.com and they have a lecture where a shaykh shows you what to do step by step. inshallah hope that helped.

Salaamalikum,

I'm sure there is a lot of information to absorb and sponge, just do your best to remember. Take a break. Eat. Exercise. Play with your kids. Balance your life accordingly. Islam is a complete way of life, from principles inside the house to etiquettes once you step outside your door mat. As a born Muslim, I learn something new every day!

Use www.islamicfinder.org to find masjids in your area. Adams Center and Darl al-Hijra in Northern VA offer many classes and activities for sisters and brothers. Give them a ring or check their individual websites.

Yea, take it step by step, not all in a rush. I hope Allah makes it easy for you :) even sometimes things for born Muslims are hard to comprehende easily, but remember whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah makes the path to Jannah easy for him... or to that degree.

From TTI: Step by Step Guide on How to Pray

Learn to Pray as the Prophet :saw: prayed

Br. HumbleOne is right, most masajid/islamic centers are listed on Islamic Finder, so I too would check there.

Also remember, if you go to a masjid, that people may not always represent Islaam, though they may be Muslim :) Insha'allah you'll find good people and someone willing to help you

Wish you the best ukhti

As salaamu Alaikum sister, I understand you concerns. Because Islam has information on just about every aspect of life, sometimes, it is hard to retain. A wonderful Idea for New Muslims is to make an outline on what you need to learn. I suggest salat(prayer), basic terms, pillars of islam, beliefs, especially things like heaven(jannah), hell(jahanam), role of Isa(jesus)PBUH, because if you are coming from Christianity you will certainly be tried in these areas, but Allah ta ala's guidance and mercy is greater than the challenge you'll face. Below is a wonderful store I think you would really benefit from their products [/COLOR]
www.noorart.com

They have text books and workbooks all levels, as well as various Juz books, short surah books, salat books, and audio and other media supplies. Tapes may help you as well if you have small children or are buzy, that way you can keep rewinding and it will sink in your memory. Also, most important DHIKRULLAH( Remembrance of Allah ta ala) will help you stay focused. InshaAllah, this will help.

Remember you will always be in a state of learning, so don't beat yourself up too hard.

I checked out there website and found that their calander but nothing listed for "Islam for Dummies!" Hee Hee. My son goes to the school that they have started. I did also send an email to a masjid in the West End, but they currently don't have anything. I guess I will just get more involved with the Muslim Parent Teacher Association so that I can get to know other convert mothers. They (Islamic Center) do have Halaqha (sp?) every Friday night but not sure what that is. I might ask my son's van driver....she is a convert....I believe. Are you from Richmond?

Islamic Center of Virginia and Islamic Society of Greater Richmond are the ONLY two that I would dare attend....the others are in very bad areas. I mean really bad areas! And I have contacted these 2 and am waiting for responses. Thanks so much for taking time to look them up for me.

QUESTION: Which is the preferred way to say thank you......Chokrun or Jazakallah khair? You should hear me running around my in-laws in tunisia saying Chokrun for EVERYTHING over and over again.....I must sound like a little chinese person does who can't say anything but Tank u.....;)
