:salam2:
before i get into what i really want say in this post, i just want to say this first: i love all of my brothers and sisters in islam for the sake of ALLAH SWT. therefore, if i have the opportunity to support islamic businesses i will. i do so because i want to help my muslim brother or sister. i bring this up because, there aren't many halal places out my way, even though they are starting to grow in larger numbers. i buy halal meat because i know that ALLAH SWT wants muslims to eat meat from halal sources, therefore i go to a halal store/restaurant.
recently, a halal restaurant opened up across the street from my home, which made me very happy. however, inside the restaurant were some not very halal things. such as pork bacon on hamburgers, television showing nothing but mtv music videos and lesbian dating shows, and i think they also sell tobacco products. what bothers me is that the owners and workers there know that these things are haram, yet they continue to sell and make these things, all the while using the word halal as part of the restaurant's name. i feel that they are abusing halal in order to get business from muslims that are simply trying to buy halal meat in order to obey their Lord by eating properly slaughtered and blessed meat. even though i have seen these things go on there, i have continued to shop there because they're pakistani muslim brothers that i want to support. so i have been debating as to whether or not i should bring these haram things to their attention. i just don't like people abusing the word halal because they know muslims will feel compelled to support them.
then there's this other halal place that's a restaurant and butcher store. they make great food and are very skilled in making fine cuts of meat. however, almost none of the shelf items have a price on them and whenever you ask for the price, they charge 2-3 more than it would've cost at any supermarket. i am a manager or an rx store, so i know the prices of things. i asked about a 12pk of pepsi, which shouldn't cost more than $4.00; the man told me it would cost $8.99!!! the sad thing is that there was a hindu store next door that was selling the soda for $3.00. i could've bought it there, but i wanted to support my brother in islam. i just don't understand how people can abuse halal like that.
