Wa`alaykum us-salaam warahmatullaah

Alhamdulillaah fine, hope you are well.

Regarding your question, while I can't give you a definitive answer, I can give you a couple of suggestions. Reflect over Surah Al-Faatihah for it is a du`aa. It begins with praises of Allaah, with a mention of His beautiful and lofty names and attributes, His Asmaa' Al-Husnaa'. The surah than ends with our request for guidance.

So if you follow the method of Al-Faatihah by beginning your du`aa by praising and exalting Allaah with His names, and then mention your request/need, you will be successful inshaa' Allaah. Also, it helps to ask Allaah by the particular names of His that are relevant to your request.

If you ask for forgiveness, ask of Allaah by his names Ar-Rahmaan (The Most Merciful), Ar-Raheem (The Ever Merciful), Al-Ghafoor (The Oft Forgiving) etc. If you ask for provision, ask by Ar-Razzaaq (The Provider). If you ask for children or some other gift, ask by His name Al-Wahhaab (The Bestower) etc, etc...

Hope it helps sister.

Was-salaam
