Asalamu Alaykum (May peace be on you)
Ok i need to learn to pray. I am aware of 5 daily prayers but i donnot know their names, what they stand for, what they are for (admiration, confession, supplication, etc.) or what to do when doing them, (if to prostrate, clasp handsand close eyes). I pray my own prayer but i dont know if im doing it right. I want to do it the right muslim way. I also want ot know what whudu is, what it is for (ocassion) why i need to do it (reasons and conditions on doin it), what it is and how often i need to do it . It would also be nice the arabic i need to say when praying and the prostration things.

Thx

From your half muslim half, christian friend (for now)

A good site to learn how to pray: http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/Learn_Now/English/Salah_In_Audio.htm

Also, look at this link (the same site): http://www.islamicacademy.org/html/General/Timetable.htm

The first link teaches you how to pray while the second tells you what time to pray.

The prayer times are as follows:
Fajr (Morning): From the "Second Dawn" to Sunrise
Thuhr (Noon): From the moment the sun passes its zenith (highest point) to late afternoon
'Asr (Afternoon): From late afternoon to sunset
Maghrib (Sunset): From sunset to the end of the Twilight (the light remaining from the area the sun set at)
'Ishaa (Night): From the end of the Twilight to the beginning of Fajr (NOTE: It is prefered to pray 'Ishaa before midnight).

Of course, you may not want to look at the sun to know the prayer times, so the second link will give you the prayer times according to a clock. Just click your location and get going.

Don't be frusterated when you find that it's hard to memorize the Arabic for the prayers (it was hard for me). To make you feel better, I had to pray using a notebook for I read off of it during the prayer to know what to say!

After prayer (it is recited), you then make Du'a, or personal prayer. Just like in a Christian Church, after you read the Liturgical Prayers, you make a personal prayer that comes from the heart.

Welcome to Islam, also.

"Pray as you saw me praying", Prophet Mohammad (sws)

:salam2: wa Rahmatullah wa barakatuh

First of all sister..No such thing as half muslim and half non-muslim.

Masha Allah you are better than most of "born muslims" who do not even attempt to pray..when it is very clear from the hadith that a muslim who does not pray deliberately is out of the circle of Islam.

Now as far as learning how to pray..it may take you a little time to learn. But for Allah's sake please be patient and try your best. Allah will certainly make it easier for you. While you are learning to pray you can simply say, "Allha huma Aghfirlli" as many times you can while you go through the standing, bowing and prostrations. First thing, however you should learn is surah Fatiha (Chapter 1 in Quran) since there is NO prayer without it.

Here is an excellent site to learn the paryer in an authentic way:

http://english.islamway.com/prayer/BegSound.htm

Please feel free to ask and do not be too tough on yourself. Your intentions are good and soon, Insha Allah, you will be prayting like a pro. There are many books also available. If you privately send me your email, my wife will send you oe of thsoe books, Insha Allah

May Allah protect you and increase your understanding of Islam each day. Ameen.

This site is great!! I just checked it out and I think this really helps... especially if you have the words in English letters so you can put it side by side to know best how to sound it out. I just wish they had a way to slow it down so you could listen a little closer to some things. But I guess that's what is good about the repeat feature. :shymuslima1:
