Hello brothers and sisters

Just a thought really and I dont know if this has been done before!!!

As a newie muslim revert I thought I knew quite a bit of stuff but I clearly am way of the mark

I was wondering if some of you would be kind enough to explain some of the text/sayings etc that are on posts

Forgive any spelling mistakes!!!!

Here goes I know when speaking or writing about the prophet muhammed(pbuh) is always said. Peace be upon him, but what does the swt after ALLAH stand for???

I also get confused when people talk about duah or salat etc so I was hoping for a brief breakdown of common terms and what they mean???

I would be very appreciative of your support and knowledge

Thankyou
Joanne

Assalamu Alaikum sister,
SWT is a term in arabic that stands for subhanu wa ta'ala. When you write Allah SWT you are saying Allah, the Glorified and the Exalted.

Salah is the ritual prayer. (There are 5 compulsory ones in the day)
Duah is invocation to Allah.

Please ask if you have any more questions.

Assalamu Alaikum

قل هو الله أحد
I hate these abbreviations. They are truely annoying and some scholars would even consider them not acceptable.

subhanahu wa ta'ala: praise be to him (Allah)

Muslims traditionally say this after they mention Allah (Glorifed He may be). It shows respect and veneration. We also say "peace be upon him" when we mention any prophet (peace be upon them all). Some people use the abbreviation "PBUH" or SA (salla Allahu alaihe = PBUH).
