:salam2:
recently, i watched a video on youtube, and it was about islam around the world. i was assuming that it would be a positive video on islam. well at least it appeared that it would be at first. then all of a sudden it went to show images of people that were victims of terrorism all over the world. in short, it basically questioned whether or not islam was a religion of peace. i will be honest, if we were only to see this video we could come to the conclusion that islam wasn't a religion of peace. i as a muslim know that islam is a peaceful religion. but maybe we should say that islam is a religion of peace but it is also a religion that believes in self defense.
we all know that terror is contrary to the tenets of islam, but how do we get those that do terrible things in the name of islam; out of the spotlight? have people taken the wrong route due to a lack of islamic education? is that the issue? is it because people have failed to really study the quran and sunnah? are we afraid to call out those scholars wrongfully issuing fatawa that are unislamic? there are times during the end of a jumma khutba, where the khatibs are saying terrible things and cursing and we're saying ameen. many of us are saying ameen because we don't speak arabic fluently. had some of us known what the khatib was saying we'd call him out.
so i think all of this stuff that is happening and has happened was due to the lack of a solid islamic education. even learning the arabic language ( al lughat arabiyya ) is a part of islamic learning. i pray that we learn everything that we can about islam and that we may become good examples. ameen
p.s. i mentioned the khatibs, because i am becoming more and more fluent in arabic and i'm understanding more and i have been shocked by some du'at that i have heard.

You are absolutely correct. What I was originally emphasizing what the people were into. In fact all messengers only received their miracle with the blessing of Allah swt.
