Salaamualikumwrwb.
I was asked by someone what the common practice of Muslims is upon a person's death. She had mentioned hearing something about putting drops of oil on the forehead but is not sure if that is true. I have found a thread started by a member with the funeral process here:

It mentions that if there is some incense, then to place it by the deceased's body. Does anyone know if this is sunnah, the proof for it or the reasons behind it? Also i'm not sure about the oil, perhaps she meant itaar-is anyone aware if this is Islamically correct?
I dont have any knowledge of it myself and would like to give her an accurate response that satisfies her curiosity InshAllaah.
