Is it OK to warn against an imam?

Asalaamu alaikum -

Is it OK to warn against innovative imams? I'm not talking about one who preaches a difference of opinion, but those who actually preach against the sunnah - such as saying having a female mu'adhan is OK or its OK to listen to music or to celebrate American holidays like Thanksgiving.

Is it considered "backbiting" to warn others of this person's preaching?

Yes you should because he calls people to misguidance. What he's doing is very dangerous and you should stop him from spreading deviated ideas by warning Muslims about him.

you really should, people often say no good comes from calling other muslims kaafir, but when you do call an innovator a kaafir you are stopping these people from misguiding other people, imagine someone takes heed to your warning and stays away from a "doubtful" imam, you may have saved this person

That 'doubtful' imaam's website is quite popular. until i read this thread and another one about modernizing islaam, i never knew these things about that imaam... and the articles posted on his website are kind of beneficial as well.. *leaving me further confused*

Expect a responsible reply.
