Dont be surprise finding out of muslims reverts in mexico or Latin-America as there were muslims in the continent even before Cristoval Columbus!
Just some facts
when the spanish came to south america they finded muslim villages of black african desendientes. latter developed as fortres called "Mandingas" to repel the invation and they did put a figth to the conquistadors!
now days this is cover up, as is cover up the fact that Cristoval Columbus on his jurnal commented that he finded muslims living on the islands on the caribbean and he descrived buildings looking like masjids.
a litle of reserch and u will find about this insha'allah
there is a nice book by the Historian Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quik ( Ta Ha Publishers ltd.). call Deepr Roots.
besides all this we must remember the inmigrants after the conquistadors came from spain Al Andaluz and the mayority were muslims and juwish scaping from the persecution who latter were forced to became cristians by the inquisition. (mayority of latinos dont know about this).
later in the future also many arab inmigrants have move to Latin america mainly from Libano, Palestina, Iran, Siria etc.
so Muslims had existed in America for long long time!
ahh i remember also the Chinise muslims came to North america also 400 houndred years before Columbus, and some of the indian trives who were erradicated by the cowboys were muslims... the sheyenne for example.
Now talking about the Muslims in mexico now days this are the facts!
There is a really Masha'allah good brother a Daia in mexico his name is Omar Weston, he is a revert brother who studied in Medina University and he is been working for the Dawah there for the las 19 years and he is the main guy spreading islam over there, were thousends of cristians have became muslims.
now there is nearly a small comunity in every city becose of his work and the work of the muslims reverts after him.
regarding Chiapas there is a sad reallity he started the Dawah with the comunity there and a hole trive became muslim at that time he was looking for support from the world Ummah so he spread the news about them, so after that some sufis morabitun finded out and move there with all the resurces and divided the cominity.
Alhamdulillah mayority are Sunni and the comunity still growing and those sufis are a minority.
