Moon is the primary source of calendar in islam. Months are changed with respect to moon. When moon is like an arc, the month starts and when it goes back to an arc, after full moon, the month ends and new one starts.

That is why, the days of the month arent fixed in islam. Either they are 29 or 30 and therefore, there cant be any perpetual calendar in islam. You can make one though but you need to put a tolerance of 1 day at the end of every month for moon.

Stars, i havent read any thing significant about them as of yet. If you find anything, do tell me

:salam2:

Sun, Moon and stars are the signs of Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had a son named Ibrahim who died when he was one year and a half old. Ibrahim's death coincided with a solar eclipse. The people began to attribute the eclipse to the death of the Prophet's son. Greatly displeased by this, the Prophet addressed them, saying,

"Eclipses of the sun and the moon are not caused by the death of any human being; they are two of Allah's signs. When you see the eclipse, you should show gratefulness to Almighty Allah and offer Prayer to Him." (Bukhari)

Hello,

Why are the star and moon pictured above and placed on the top of mosques? Why so much attention given?

Thanks

From the Islamic point of view, we have the Qur’anic verse which speaks of the new moons. It says: “They ask you about the new moons. Say: They are signs for people to mark fixed periods of time, and for the pilgrimage.” (2: 189) It does not give any direct answer on the nature of the new moon, or why the moon is born in this particular way. It refers to the usefulness of the moon and its different stages as an indication of the passage of time. To Muslims, the crescent as a symbol of the moon remained such until the time of the Crusades when Muslims made the crescent a symbol they put on their flags to counter the cross symbol which the Crusaders placed on their flags, shields and clothes. Later, the Ottoman government made it a symbol and placed it on its flag. It was later extended to be placed on minarets. But it does not signify anything religious, and it is not associated with any religious concept. by M. C. Abdulrahman

A related issue:

A Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) regarding signs of end time

The Mosques would be like palaces. This is clearly the case, even though the Prophet ordered simplicity in the houses of Allah, the mosques have become more and more fantastic, with golden domes, marbled floors, lavish carpets and chandeliers

if you go to islam-qa or fatwaonline.com you will find out many scholars there have said putting a moon or star is forbidden in islam on minarets or even on ones flag because it is associatiation with the kuffar and their practices.

also interesting to note that Prophet Muhammad never used this symbol. neither did the first muslim empire the Umayadhs and even during the crusades with the christians. i dont know where the fake story of salahudeen putting a cresent moon symbol on the dome of rock came from because that is absolutly false. the muslims were not using the crsent moon symbol during that time, the cresent moon symbol was first used by muslims in 1453 when the turks conquqered christian constainople and took the flag of constaniople which was the cresent and star representing Mary and Jesus was the Bright Morning star symbol as their own cause the turks were soufies and superstitious people, and they believed if you took the enemies flag you have good luck in battle. that is where the origin of how muslims started to use it came from.

also this is from islam-qa:

It should be noted that taking the star and crescent as a symbol of the Muslims has no basis in sharee’ah, and it was not known at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) or the time of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, or even at the time of the Umayyads. Rather it was introduced after that. Whatever the case, flags and banners should be in accordance with sharee’ah, and as there is no evidence that this (the crescent and star symbol) is prescribed in Islam, it is better to avoid it. The crescent and star is not a symbol of the Muslims, even though some Muslims have adopted it.

Hello Abdalilah & Salem9022,

Thank you for your honesty and explanation. Yes, it seems that stars have powers that people try to invoke (knowing and unknowing). But, one thing is fact...people (from all religious back grounds) are constantly messing up things when in a state of doubt/ faithlessness. Are all stars bad? What about the Jewish star of David; wasn't this symbol given by God? And, I see eight pointed star like symbols on Islamic texts etc... what is this?

That reminds me...

I once purchased a kind of toy from the store (popular international furniture chain known for affordable furniture). The toy was a plastic star that had four or five hanging small sized stuffed animals. The toy was something that you hang from the ceiling in a childs room. Anyway, one night I woke up and noticed something around the star. It was some sort of design. I figured the toy was blocking the design and I couldn't make out what is was and of course I went back to sleep. A few days later I saw something similar on TV talking about stars and showing ritual type things. I then realized - the toy wasn't blocking the symbol it was the center of it. I put it in the closet, still not understanding if it is bad or good. And, as I type - I remember I should throw it in the garbage as I wouldn't want to give it to someone else via thrift shops etc... Should I try to get rid of all star symbols in my house?

Thanks for your help.

Yes I also see that jewish kind of a star symbol in some Quran after every verse. But I think that symbol is a gemoetrical design intended to beautify the Quran rather then doing it for the purpose of the jews.

Also I don't know what to tell you about that star symbol from that toy, Allahu 3llam, I know that star and moon symbols have been in existence for a long time mainly for the astrological worship and fortune telling but I don't know if that relates to what you are saying. I can give you a Phone number of a Good Shaykh from KSA he teaches in Medina or Unayzaah, I forget. He speaks good english, he can answer all your questions in detail if you want it over phone.

This is his Number: +00966555533702
This is the direct Number when your dialing. you might want to get a phone card before you dial this number.

If not you can go to http://www.fatwa-online.com/ to ask your question

Hello,

Again, thanks to both of you. God willing I will call but, I will pray about it for 3 days...just to make sure my steps are pleasing to God.

Kabbalists being devil worshippers - can you explain briefly. I once thought (one night of research) that this religion might have some validity until it said the origins cannot be traced but, goes way back to antiquity (over 4,000 some odd years).

Also, as for stars - I'll get rid of what I know of in my house tonight. Thank goodness it's garbage night :)

Stars are everywhere in America and they are becoming more frequent.

Thanks again!

how a person can do sorcery if he don't worship Satan and demons ?
kabbalystes use a book called " Zohar " wich is the book of sorcery of jews , not all jews accept Zohar .

this Kabbalistes will not tell peopel that they do sorcery , they are a liars , what can a person excpect from a liars ?

and Allah know best.

Thank you for the explanation! Now, knowing of this book, Zohar, I know this is not right and not for me!
