The Earth revolves around the sun. This is a sientific fact that people have already proven. The Islamic view on this matter is the same as the scientific view.Unless the ulama you mentioned were scientists, I would take their science related rulings with a grain of salt.

Ya I kno but these ulama have used islamic evidence. The thing is that this envidence . He uses hadith and quranic ayats. But the thing is that these ayats dont directly say whether the sun revovles the earth. The scholars though have the opinion that it may refer to the meaning that the sun revovles the earth. So if this view is incorrect scientifically does that mean that it has to be explained different ly

There are many things in the Quran that are studied by science. These things were only found in recent times and many are still trying to be discovered today, yet the Quran was revealed over 1400 years ago to an illiterate man (Prophet Muhammad SAW) in the Desert, subhanallah. One example of this about the creation of the universe, what scientists call the Big Bang (I talk about the Sun later):
"And the heaven We created with might, and indeed We are (its) expander. " (Quran 51:47)

Note scientists only recently (~10 years) concluded the universe is expanding.

“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We separated them, and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” (Quran 21:30)

"He (God) is the Originator of the heavens and the earth…” (Quran 6:101)

“Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes; and He is the Knowing Creator. His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” (Quran 36:81-82)

I mention these and the following things because they may help you in your studies because they are closely related.

This ayat also came to mind when you mention the Sun's rules, you may wish to study them (there are lots more probably):
Blessed be He Who has placed in the heaven big stars, and has placed therein a great lamp (sun), and a moon giving light. (Quran Al-Furqan: 61)

And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an orbit. (Quran 21:33)

It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law). (Quran 36:40)

By the sun and his brightness, And the moon when she followeth him ... (Quran 91:1-2)

And maketh the sun and the moon, constant in their courses, to be of service unto you, and hath made of service unto you the night and the day. (Quran 14:33)

Allah it is Who raised up the heavens without visible supports, then mounted the Throne, and compelled the sun and the moon to be of service, each runneth unto an appointed term; He ordereth the course; He detaileth the revelations, that haply ye may be certain of the meeting with your Lord. (Quran 13:2)

He hath created the heavens and the earth with truth. He maketh night to succeed day, and He maketh day to succeed night, and He constraineth the sun and the moon to give service, each running on for an appointed term. Is not He the Mighty, the Forgiver? (Quran 39:5)

There are countless other things like this found in the Quran such as: human embryonic development, Formation of the universe, galaxies, planets, earth's atmosphere, mountains, clouds and rain, etc., how the seas and oceans work, how the human brain functions, and much much more. Aside from the scientific miracles in the Quran we also have them from the Sunnah, Prophet Muhammad SAW mentioned in the Bible and other scriptures, the authentication and preservation of the Quran, evidence of the Prophet SAW prophethood, logical proofs of Allah, linguistic proofs, etc. and of course the biggest miracle the Quran itself. These are but a few ways it proves Islam is the truth, elhamdulillah. No other religion comes close to the amount of proof we have, it makes accepting Islam so easy and logical to many scientists even. The other thing that proves is how Islam talks about jinn, only recently again has the West been interested in this topic of ghosts with the many TV shows and research going on around them. They only need to look at Islam... like everything else to solve their questions- we all do. But still trying to figure out Allah's creation and make nice inventions to help humanity is a great thing, we should all try to educate ourselves in other disciplines- not just religion. This is why Muslims were so powerful in the past, we had the best hearts and minds that invented many of the fundamental sciences and concepts that exist today.

The thing science can't answer is how stuff just works... what is causing it to be there to begin with and function. How electrons and neutrons rotate around an atom, and connect to form mass. Where did they come from? Where did the rules of gravity and heat come from, what drives this force and rules of nature that are always there? When you break it down to these elements science can't explain it, they just can talk high level on Allah's creation and try to write formulas to mimic it, they have no idea how stuff really works- it is just there for them to study. Allah created the sun and everything else so perfectly and the planets and what is inside just works in perfect unison most of the time. We can never understand the world through scientific mind alone we have to get very spiritual and even so we won't really understand these thigns, so don't waste your time because it in the end it is all from Allah SWT and we can never even get close to appreciate how Perfect Allah SWT is in every single way or close to His Knowledge. This is why we say - All praise and thanks is due to Allah- Elhamdulillah and Glory be to Allah - Subhanallah. So from the smallest things, atoms to the largest things the Sun, science really can't tell us or benefit us much by talking about it.

When you study and think deeply about these things you can truly see the Mercy and Magnificence of Allah SWT. How much detail there is in everything and how we take it for granted. We are so blind....

Why do you ask about the sun, what are you researching? Scholars have a right to their opinion, but we know they don't always agree, I'd love to see what they say about the sun. I believe them any day over the scientists. :)

Selamun Aleykum Everybody,

It seems as the only Sheikhs that support the geocentric view are Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Baz and Muhammad bin Saalih al-`Uthaymeen. There may be others but these two people show up most when searched about on Google. Honestly I did not find any other Imams or learned Muslim people with such a view. But i think I need to do more research to be sure. Relative to earth, the sun seems as if it is revolving around the globe. But that is just how we see it. The truth is otherwise. Remember, this is not like a theory (evolution), rather it is a fact. But in the end, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Allah (SWT) says in the Quran that all these objects, earth, sun and moon are in rotation. This is a more comprehensive statement, as they are rotating on their own axis and rotating around other objects, like sun is rotating on its own axis and rotating around the center of our galexy.
If a sheikh takes a wrong opinion it is his mistake. Also Quran is not a text book.
Quran is not a book of science, but it is a book of signs.
Why you are focusing on one alim who has made mistake in understanding the signs (ayat) of the Quran.

Itqan Ullah

Time is Running!!
Assalamaliekum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu,
I came across this today:
Could you please explain these Quranic verse. Actually one Non Muslim asked me to explain these verses.
Quran 71:19 And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out).
Quran 78:6 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, What does it mean ?
Quran 15:19 And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.
Does it mean that Earth is flat? Tafsir Jalalayn says that EARTH is flat. But it is against Established Science.

Praise be to Allah
Firstly:

The scholars are unanimously agreed that the earth is round, but to human eyes it appears to be flat, because it is very big and its roundness or curvature cannot be seen at close distances. So the one who stands and looks sees it as flat, but when viewed as a whole, in reality it is round.

Ibn Hazm (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

The proofs of the Qur’an and Sunnah indicate that it is round. End quote.

See also the answers to questions no. 201530 and 118698

Secondly:

The verse (interpretation of the meaning) “And Allah has made for you the earth wide spread (an expanse)” [Nooh 71:19] indicates that it is spread out and shaped so that people can feel settled in it and be able to live and prosper in it. Ibn Katheer said:

That is, He spread it out, prepared it, made it stable and made it firm by means of the mountains.

Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/247

Similarly, the verse (interpretation of the meaning) “Have We not made the earth as a bed” [an-Naba’ 78:6] means that it is spread out and prepared for you and for your benefit, so that you can cultivate it, build dwellings in it and travel through it.

Ibn Katheer said:

That is, it is prepared for people in such a way that they can live in it, and it is firm, stable and steady.

Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 8/307

And the verse (interpretation of the meaning) “And the earth We spread out, and placed therein firm mountains, and caused to grow therein all kinds of things in due proportion” [al-Hijr 15:19] means We spread it out and placed firm mountains therein. This is like the verse in which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers” [ar-Ra‘d 13:3].

There is no contradiction between saying that it is round and saying that it was spread out, because in fact in its totality it is round, but to the one who stands on it and looks at it, it appears flat, as it appears to everyone.

Ar-Raazi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

If it is said: Do the words “And the earth We spread out” indicate that it is flat?

We would respond: Yes, because the earth, even though it is round, is an enormous sphere, and each little part of this enormous sphere, when it is looked at, appears to be flat. As that is the case, this will dispel what they mentioned of confusion. The evidence for that is the verse in which Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “And the mountains as pegs” [an-Naba’ 78:7]. He called them awtaad (pegs) even though these mountains may have large flat surfaces. And the same is true in this case.

End quote from Tafseer ar-Raazi, 19/131

Shaykh ash-Shanqeeti (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

If the scholars of Islam affirm that the earth is round, then what would they say about the verse in which Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?

And at the heaven, how it is raised?

And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm?

And at the earth, how it is spread out?”

[al-Ghaashiyah 88:17-20].

Their response will be the same as their response concerning the verse in which Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water” [al-Kahf 18:86] – that is, as it appears to be in the eye of the beholder, because the sun sets on one country, but remains up in the sky for another, until it rises from the east on the following morning. So the earth looks flat in every region or part of it, because of its immense size.

This does not contradict its real shape, because we may see a very high mountain, but if we climb it and reach its summit we may find a flat surface there, and find an entire nation living there, and some of the people there may not know anything about the rest of the world, and so on. End quote.

Adwa’ al-Bayaan, 8/428

Shaykh Rafee‘ ad-Deen ibn Waliyullah ad-Dahlawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book at-Takmeel:

Some may understand words such as “made the earth as a bed” [an-Naba’ 78:6], “He spread the earth” [an-Naazi‘aat 79:30] and “…how it is spread out…” [al-Ghaashiyah 88: 20] as meaning that it is flat, whereas the scholars affirm that it is round on the basis of sound evidence, so it is thought that there is a conflict. That may be refuted by the fact that the visible part of it (for a person standing on it) appears flat, because the larger a circle is, the more spread out it is, so we may say that it is flat on the basis of that part of it that is visible to us, and it is round in its totality, on the basis of rational thinking.

Quoted from him by Siddeeq Hasan Khan in his tafseer, Fath al-Bayaan, 15/208

Also, what I find really interesting is in this fatwa Shaykh is quoting Shaykh Uthmayeen rahimullah himself saying Earth is round and then goes further explaining it from Qur'an (Also, fatwa's title itself is consensus on roundness of earth!) :
http://islamqa.info/ar/118698

The fatwa you are referring to have been there for quite a time floating on internet, allahualam, in what context, circumstances, etc they said this and maybe retaracted from it later even if they said that?
Allahualam, I don't know really what is the case.
