Every time prayer breaks you have to go and make a new wudu (prayer wash).

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 4, Number 137:
narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "The prayer of a person breaks by passing of wind from the anus."

Prophet advised in regard to people laughing at other’s passing wind said: ‘You laugh at that which you yourself do.’”

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 4, Number 139:
Narrated 'Abbas bin Tamim:

My uncle asked Allah's Apostle about a person who imagined to have passed wind from anus during the prayer. Allah' Apostle replied: "He should not leave his prayers unless he hears sound or smells something".

Assalamu alaykum,

would like to clarify that the last hadith means if someone is in doubt, i.e does not know whether or not the Wudhu has broken, then there is no need to break your prayer and do wudhu.

This stems back to the issue of the easiness of Islam,

wasalam.

Yes The Ulamaa clearly say that you are not to break your prayer unless you hear a sound or smell something. I know many brothers who the shaytaan plays with them in the prayer and causes them to always break their salaah for no reason causing them to lose the very core of the prayer being mindful on concentrating as if Allaah was before you. The cure for this and most things is knowledge. Allaah knows best.

AssalaamuAlaikum,

I have a doubt here, a hypothetical situation - Lets assume i have finished my prayer and sitting there saying my duas or the tasbeeh.. And if I happen to pass wind, then is it ok? my duas and my zikr will be accepted? or I have to perform my wudhu again?

Also, I don't understand what the hadith's means by the term "sound" over here.. Can anyone explain please? What if its a silent one.? :D

JazakAllah Khair
Peace :)

Duas and Tasbeehs don't require Wudhu so if you Wudhu breaks then :inshallah: no need to repeat them and. Passing wind is done in two ways i.e. silently and audibly (with a loud annoying sound).

The commentary of the Hadeeth in question is that if a person is afflicted with flatulence then he/she should not leave the prayer unless and until they hear a sound or smell. However, a normal healthy person is able to know when they have passed wind therefore no need to watch for any further confirmation by means of sound or smell i.e. they don't need a 3D version (with sound and smell) and just a normal passing of wind would do and they should repeat the prayer.
