It's really tempting

Have to admit, it is really tempting to work in a supermarket because it's one of the easiest part-time jobs out there to find. But because you're selling the people alcohol/pork/haaram meat, it makes the job haraam. People have been saying confusing things like it's not like you're drinking the alcohol or eating the meat, so how could it be haraam? I see brothers with beards and a lot of sisters with hijaab who work in such enviornments. I'm sure there is a hadeeth that says the curse is the same for the one who drinks alcohol, sells it, deals with it etc. So if someone works in a supermarket and earns money, their rizq is going to be unlawful and have no baraakah.

But what happens if they spent that rizq buying food, clothing and other items. Do those items become haraam as well and should they get rid of it? And if they have money left from haraam rizq, what should they do with it?

I used to be in this type of thing a long time ago.

I never was happy

I never appreciated the money earned.

I always had problems.

when I gave it all up. I became very happy with a lot less income. Allah also placed in my heart much gratitude and obedience. Alhumdulillah!

also I live much better now, and so does my family.

Islam is a way of life
At the local grocery store, there are 2 Hijabbed Muslimahs who work at the check out. When people buy pork or un-halal meat, they use the plastic bag as a buffer so they dont tocuh the meat.

I work at a store where everything is $1 :D We dont sell anything like pork or alcohol or anything.

I told my friend from Pakistan that she would freak out in America.
I live next to a gas/petrol station owned by a Pakistani-American Muslim and he sells not only alcohol and pork, but Playboy too. Astaghfirallah...

walikumsalam,

i have recently heard a talk by dr.zakir naik, were he says if they haram (alcohol) is the minority of the store, and the shares are soo low of that product, and other products have a greater impact on the store then there is nothing wrong with working their.

there is such a BIG PROBLEM ! im liveing in england, and there is such a big job crisis, so how do you expect brothers and sisters to leave these jobs? i have cousins and friends working in supermarkets etc, and if they leave there jobs, they will be liveing in streets.i even know brothers and sisters who are going through tough times even to provide their family, due to the job crisis hear, then how can these brothers and sisters leave their jobs?

Brother you are quoting Dr zakir wrong. What he said is that if a person is working in a company where the profit from the alcohol or other prohibited things is very less then it is allowed to work in such a company provided the person is not directly involved in the Haraam activity of the company.......And secondly you feel that your relatives or friends will come on streets if they leave job however the reality is that rizq of a person is fixed and whatever a person does he wont get more than that....Also allah says in quran If you leave something for Allah then Allah will substitute you with something better....

sorry, i couldnt explain it properly regarding what dr zakir naik said, jazakallah for correcting. and its true, allah will give something better if you leave something bad for the sake of islam...but unfortunatly when i say this to most people, they dont yet take any action..i think that fear of not being able to provide theirself and their family has really got into them.its a tough life hear, you need a job to live.but inshallah allah will make these brothers and sisters realise one day, and may allah help these brothers and sisters.ameen. all im saying is its such a tough choice to make when their is a job crisis hear, even graduates cant get a decent job.

jazakallah.
