So I've just been to my orthodontist and he said I need to have braces/jaw surgery to fix my teeth and the way I bite to eat food. My condition is that my lower teeth end up infront of my top teeth . I wasn't born like this, and no one else in my family has it but when I was younger I had to wear something in my mouth and I didnt wear it properly which caused it to be like this :/ . As a result my face may change , and I'm not sure whether I should go through it or not. The benefits are that I'll have good teeth, be able to chew food properly ( at the moment I keep biting into my cheek as my teeth aren't proper spaced) . Negatives are that it may change my facial features, and could result in slight numbness in my lip/chin.

Just not sure about it and would appreciate any advice.

Salam,
If its causing you discomfort, you might want to consider the procedure. As for the facial changes, it will only make you look the way you were supposed to naturally look if that condition had not come along. The numbness usually goes away in less than 8 months.

But, make sure you collect all facts on the doctor before having him work on you. Read up on him and see if patients are satisfied with his work. Inshallah it goes well for you.
