Assalamu Aleikum Brothers and Sisters,
Last night my mosque observed Lailat ul-Qadr (Night of Power). I truly believe in my heart it was Lailat ul-Qadr...all the signs were there! It was so peaceful and the weather was absolutely beautiful.
I started the night at the 96 street mosque and ended at my local mosque in Queens. I spent 12 hours at the mosque... from Maghrib to Fajr! It was so touching to see my ummah striving so hard for Allah (swt). There is so much iman amoung us and mine definitely doubled after what I witnessed and experienced.
However, toward the end of the night I became frustrated. I don't understand Arabic so I felt a bit disconnected...Does anyone relate? I really need to begin Arabic lessons, but I fear, since it is such a difficult language, I will not learn.
At one point in the night the Imam turned off all the lights and began reciting a poem. I didn't understand what he was saying, but I burst into tears. It wasn't till later I learned he was talking about death, the grave, and the process we will all face when we die. It was as if my soul understoon what he was saying even though my head didn't.
The Imam also discussed Taqawa...and it will be seen after Ramadan who truly has Taqawa. I am so afraid that after Ramadan my life will go back to its normal routine. I know there is a lot that I must change, but it is so challenging. Insh'Allah I will have the strength to continue to change in a positive way and in a way that is pleasing to Allah (swt).
I would love to hear your experiences of the night...if you would like to share. I know it can be very personal, but I believe we will strengthen each others iman if we share.
Wa-salaam

But it was soo worth it. What's one day in 365? That night has to be taken full advantage of.
