Language problems..

I was reading in a thread today and a sister defined the word "shirk" as polytheism. I was HIGHLY confused.....

Since in english, shirk means "to avoid work or other responsibilities because of laziness".

Ah yes, language barriers are just sooooooooo wonderful to handle. Please be aware that anytime I've used the word "shirk" in a post, it was by the english definition. I didn't even know about the Islamic definition.

I'm sorry.

Assalaamu alaikum,

a sister defined the word "shirk" as polytheism
I think that was me :shymuslima1:
Polytheism may translate it but not too well
you're right akhi, I know that word and aamm...associating partners with Allaah, those are mainly used when translating the word "SHIRK"....I ask Allaah to reward you for clarifying that to the sister:)

JenGiove.....thanks for bringing up this thread!!!
