Bismillahir rahmanir rahim, the following content is lecture notes of the lecture "THE ETIQUETTE OF FRIDAY" by Yahya Ibrahim

1.The Importance of Jumah
The importance of Friday prayer can be known by the fact one whole Surah (Chapter) of the Holy Quran is named Al-Jumah (Chapter no.62)
Allah says in this
62:9 O ye who believe! When the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday (the Day of Assembly), hasten earnestly to the Remembrance of Allah
The no. 1 reason for people leaving friday prayer on this very day is WORK
and so Allah says
62:9"and leave off business (and traffic): That is best for you if ye but knew!"
DID YOU KNOW -
"If you sell someone something at this, its not HALAL. Every trade or business done at this point is HARAM"
and than Allah says
62:10 And when the Prayer is finished, then may ye disperse through the land, and seek of the Bounty of Allah: and celebrate the Praises of Allah often (and without stint): that ye may prosper
Allah doesn't stop you to not to do any other work on this day.
Allah than narrates the incidence of the Sahaba's who left the prophet standing delivering the Khutba and went to the caravan who came for bargain and so Allah says
62:11 But when they see some bargain or some amusement, they disperse headlong to it, and leave thee standing. Say: "The (blessing) from the Presence of Allah is better than any amusement or bargain! and Allah is the Best to provide (for all needs)."
This is a promise of Allah that he will give you all you need so don't worry and leave all your work and head to the mosque
The prophet p.b.u.h reported in Tirmidhi that "Whoever doesn't pray three JUMAH in a row, his heart will be sealed" His Iman will escape from his heart.
In another hadith prophet p.b.u.h reports
" whoever doesn't pray three Jumah in a row, without any valid excuse, he would be considered in the Hypocrites"
there are only seven excuses for you to miss Salat Al-Jumah.
1. If you're a muslim woman.
2. If you're a child
3. If you've extreme illness that you cannot go the mosque
4. If you are travelling
5. If you are in fear that someone will hurt you or someone will hurt your family members while you're not there
6. If there is extreme weather conditions
7. If you're a slave
except this 7excuses you can't leave friday salah
and one last hadeeth which will emphasize the importance of Jumah
Bukhari Volume 2, Book 13, Number 51
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said,
"When it is a Friday, the angels stand at the gate of the mosque and keep on writing the names of the persons coming to the mosque in succession according to their arrivals. The example of the one who enters the mosque in the earliest hour is that of one offering a camel (in sacrifice). The one coming next is like one offering a cow and then a ram and then a chicken and then an egg respectively. When the Imam comes out (for Jumua prayer) they (i.e. angels) fold their papers and listen to the Khutba."
2.The Manners
the following three things are important to do on the day of Jumah if you're a man
1. Take a Ghusl
2. Use Fragrance
3. Use Miswak (if you don't have it brush your teeths cuz cleansing of mouth is what is important)
Bukhari Volume 2, Book 13, Number 5
Narrated Abu Said: I testify that Allah's Apostle said, "The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and (also) the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak, and the using of perfume if it is available."
if you're a muslim woman
1. Take a bath
2.Use Miswak
it is not permissible for a woman to go out wearing perfume.
another manner is,
you're not permitted to sit down in the mosque except you pray two rakats.
Bukhari Volume 2, Book 13, Number 52
Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: A person entered the mosque while the Prophet was delivering the Khutba on a Friday. The Prophet said to him, "Have you prayed?" The man replied in the negative. The Prophet said, "Get up and pray two Rakat."
if you enter the mosque and you're late and you see the imam is speaking do not sit down and be quick&pray the 2rakats and sit down.
also you've to be silent while the imam is delivering the Khutba. the part where you spoke your that part of jumah will not be accepted.
Imam Syed Sadiq In his book Fiqh of Sunnah said "It is haraam for a person to speak while the Imam is speaking"
Its is a rude action to cross shoulders of the sitting brothers. i.e. Going ahead crossing everyone's shoulders
3. The Fiqh Of Jummah
Imam Abu Hanifa said there is only REQUIREMENT for Jummah Salah "You remind yourself and people to remember Allah"
Iman AsShafi said there are 5 Requirement
1. Praise Allah in the beginning of Khutba
2. Send peace of Prophet p.b.u.h
3.Order the people to fear Allah
4. Recite atleast one Ayat of Quran
5. You make dua for you and Believer
CONCLUSION -
In a hadith prophet p.b.u.h narrated
"The best and most blessed day when the sun rises is the day of Jummah. It was on the day of Jumah that Adam A.S was created, It was on the day of Jumah that Adam A.S was allowed to enter Jannah, on the day of Jumah that Adam A.S was taken out of the Jannah, It would be the day of Jumah when the day of judgement will be brought upon"
Bukhari Volume 2, Book 13, Number 57
Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) talked about Friday and said, "There is an hour (opportune time) on Friday and if a Muslim gets it while praying and asks something from Allah, then Allah will definitely meet his demand." And he (the Prophet) pointed out the shortness of that time with his hands.
