Assalamu allaicum wa raahmatullah wa baarakatuhu my dear brothers and sisters.

I pray to Allah that you all are having blessed and happy days of Ramadhan.May Allah subhan wa teala accept each of your honest duas and reward you with His Mercy and Forgivness. Ameen ya Rabby

Dear brothers and sisters, I have one question regarding our next life in barzah Inshallah. Sometimes I feel afraid of death because I do not know where our souls go after we pass away from Dunya world and I do not know are my feelings correct.Alhadmulillah I know that only Allah knows what happens during our life in barzah, but my question is related for period of time which we will pass in barzah.

I was thinking about Allahs Prophets and other people who were living on Dunya many, many years ago,and by our time, to us it seems like very long period, so I was thinking is there any ayah or hadeeth of our beloved Prophet sallahu alahya wa saalam which explains how many years or for how long time we will live our lifes in barzah Inshallah???

I pray to Allah that I did not ask any wrong question Inshallah.:tti_sister:

May Allah bless you and reward you dear brothers and sisters. Ameen ya Rabby

Dear Sister,

Walaikom Assalam. Ramadan Kareem and May Allah's blessings and mercy be upon you! Ameen.

Allah tells us about the life in barzakh in Surah Yunus (Chapter 10) Verse 30.

"There shall every soul become acquainted with what it sent before and they shall be brought back to Allah, their true Patron, and what they devised shall escape from them" (Qur'an 10:30)

This is speaking about the situation in the hereafter when, we are told, every soul shall experience it’s own reality and come to intimately understand it’s true condition and where it stands in relation to the nature, purpose, and greater realities of existence.

The qur'an speaks of two resurrections that take place after death – the first is in the barzakh and the second is at the final judgment. A person’s life is likened to a book – with each thought, word, and action, they are writing on the pages of their soul, and the state of their nafs is impacted by what they busy themselves with in this world. After death, they go through the questioning in the grave and then experience a second life in the barzakh. The questioning is nothing other than the exposure of the reality of the state of their nafs (soul). They are asked “What is your book?”, “Who is your prophet?”, “Who is your Imam?” But this is not an after death quiz or a memory test. Rather it is an examination of how near the substance of their soul is to the substance of the qur’an, to the heart of the Prophet. How closely does their reality correspond to the reality identified in the qur’an. How closely does the book of their soul correspond to the book of revelation. What was their level of their heart's attachment to the qur’an, to the Prophets, to the Imams. To what extent does their character manifest the actuality of the Prophet and the qur'an?

In the barzakh, it is said that the contents of "who you are" are turned inside out and you experience the contents of your nafs (of your own self) as a universe that surrounds you. Just as in a dream fears and anxieties can take concrete form and shape, so in the barzakh you experience as concrete, manifest realities the deeds you did and the substance of your soul. It is sometimes referred to as the "imaginal" (mithal) world - since the realites of the soul will manifest as images and forms, creating an encompassing world of concretized images. But the reality of the barzakh, it being higher than this world in the hierarchy of creation, is that it has a more intense reality than this world and our experience in that world will be correspondingly more intense. The nafs will dwell in a universe that is nothing but a representation, a living image of it's own internal architecture, a reflection, a mirror of its true stature.

So the barzakh can take on the aspect of a garden of paradise or that of a nightmare come to life (or a mix of the two) – depending on the contents and state and ruling characteristics of one's nafs.

Since it is a place where one experiences nothing other than their own reality, their own true self - this is why, at the second resurrection (the judgement), the qur'an states that each soul knows its own place – there is no argument because everyone is cognizant of their own reality and of the totality of the effect of all that they have done, since they have experienced it firsthand - "every soul becomes acquainted with what it sent before it...."

The illusory nature of all that people devised and chased after in this life becomes manifest and their inventions fail them and vanish away - "and what they devised shall escape from them" (10:30). They imagined that they were Rabb (Lord) over what they invented, but here it becomes clear to all that only God is Rabb – and all other lordships are only a fading mirage.

"...they know a manifest side of the life of this world, but of the last world they are utterly heedless and ignorant.” (30:6-7)

And Barzakh will be till the day of the judgement. Nobody know when it ends.

I hope that answers your question, sister.

Jazakallahu Khair!

Assalamu allaicum wa raahmatullah wa baarakatuhu

Ramadhan Mubarak to you too dear brother and your family, and Jazzak Allah khair for your answer.

Alhadmulilah I understand dear brother that after we pass away from this Dunya world Inshallah we will live in barzaah untill day of Judgment and untill Allah get back again our souls in our bodies for making account of our deeds.Inna illahi wa inna illahi rajjioun

But I did not understood dear brother how long perioid we will spent in our life in barzaah Inhallah and is there any ayah or hadeeth which answer on this question???

I know that life in barzaah is completaly diffent than our Dunya life, that is why I thought that maybe the time which we account on Dunya is diffrent than one in barzaah, like maybe our life in barzaah will be much shorter than our life on Dunya.Allahume Aleem!

May Allah forgive me if I ask wrong question and increase our knowledge.Ameen ya Rabby

Dear sister ,asalaamualikum,as per my understanding ,definitely the time spent in barzakh is not clearly specified, but it is from the day you die till the day of judgement.
but if you have done good deeds then the time spent in barzakh might appear very short to you because you would be in a state of calm and peace, on the contrary those who have sent bad deeds ahead of them, for them this time would appear very long, and pls the time period in this world that is years, months and days are limited to this world only, the calculation of time in the other world is very different. Allahu alam.Allah knows better and i seek his forgiveness if i am wrong. Barakallahu fee.

Dear Sister,

Walaikkum Assalam. I don't know any specific ayat that specifies the duration of this period. But Barzakh is defined as the period between death and the day of resurrection. According most Islamic scholars, the interpretation is that period. I also believe the same because I cross-checked with several articles which I am giving you the links to :

http://www.quransunnah.com/modules.php?name=QNA&l_op=viewfatwa&lid=571

http://www.quransunnah.com/modules.php?name=QNA&l_op=viewfatwa&lid=570

I know sister that this wouldn't convince you. But qur'an requires some interpretation. And only Allah knows the best Answer.

Assalamu allaicum wa raahmatullah wa baarakatuhu

May Allah reward you dear sister and dear brother for your resposes. I was looking for this ayah and Alhamdulillah I have found it.

"And on the Day when He shall gather (resurrect) them together, (it will be) as if they had not stayed (in the life of this world and graves, etc.) but an hour of a day. They will recognise each other. Ruined indeed will be those who denied the meeting with Allah, and were not guided".( Surah Yunus, ayah 45)

In this ayah Allah subhan wa teala sais that after we pass away and after we be lived again to respond for our deeds Inshallah, it will seem to us that it has passed very short time, SubhanAllah.

Alhmadulillah, Allah Only knows the best answer.

May Allah reward you once again dear brother and sister for your kind help and reward you with usefull knowledge of which you will have good on this World and Ahiraah. Ameen ya Rabby:tti_sister:
