Love for Three Things

Assalamualaikum



I want to share with you a Hadith from Munnabihaat by Ibn Hajar.

Once when the Prophet was sitting among his companins, he remarked: "Three things of this world are very dear to me: Perfume, Women and Salaat - the comfort of my eyes."

"Quite true" rejoined Abu Bakr (RA), "And I cherish three things: a look at thy face, spending of my wealth on thee, and that my daughter is thy wife."

"Quite true" said Hadhrat Umar (RA), "And the three things that I love most are; enforcing that which is right, forbidding evil and wearing old clothes."

"Quite true" said Hadhrat Uthmaan (RA), "And the three I love most are: feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and reciting the Quran."

"Quite true" said Hadhrat Ali (RA) "And I love the three things most: serving a guest, fasting on a very hot day, and smiting the enemy with my sword."

At this Jibraeel (AS) appeared on the scene and said to the Prophet , "Allah has sent me to tell what I would love if I be one of the mortals." "Yes do us Jibraeel", said the Prophet . Jibraeel then replied " If I had been like you, I would have loved three things, guiding the people gone astray, loving those who worship in poverty and helping the poor family men. And as for Allah, He Loves three characteristics of His Slaves: striving in His Path, crying at the time of repentance, and steadfastness in want and hunger.

My sisters and I often mention the three things that Abu Bakr (RA) expressed his love for. He indeed was Abu Bakr Siddeeq. His love for the Prophet had no bounds.

ALLAH-o-AKBER, look at these sahabah . I love Umer (RA) in particular.

He is my ideal person who wanted descipline in every aspect in any sort of conditions.
May ALLAH gives us strength to follow them blindly. (ameen)

Ameen to your Duas brother Al Qurtubi. Their Imaan was beyond our thinking. They would do anything to seek Allah's pleasure and happiness in the most unbearable cirucumstances. We dont even do the slightest of Ibadah today. Small example, when we fast (personal story), we are told by family and friends not to. Why? "You are sick now, when you get better you can do it." But who can guarantee life? And what is sickness anyway? Its all from Allah. If we (example) fast for His happiness, to seek forgiveness and pardon from hell fire, then what is sickness? Will not then the sickness that is from Allah get cured through seeking His Pleasure and His Mercy?

The Sahabah encouraged each other to engage in and perform harder activities after even enduring a hardship in an unbearable time and place, again and again, just to seek Allah's Pleasure. But us, on the other hand, claim to love them and be Rasulullahs followers, and believe in him as the greatest Prophet of Allah, consider his words to be most genuine and we boast our love for him, yet how far do we act upon his advice? And how much do we fear about the punishments which he has warned us about?

May Allah give us strength and Imaan like theirs. That which allows us to engage in Ibadah constantly despite all the hardships and worldly distractions and deviations from Allah Almighty. We seek His Protection, Mercy and Forgiveness, as without it we are nothing.

But the wording of the hadeeth is not as you mentioned. The correct authentic hadeeth is:

حبِّب إليَّ من دنياكم النساء والطيب ، وجعلت قرة عيني في الصلاة
وقد رواه النسائي ( 3939 ) من حديث أنس بن مالك – رضي الله عنه - .

وصححه الحاكم ( 2 / 174 ) ووافقه الذهبي ، وصححه الحافظ ابن حجر في " فتح الباري " ( 3 /15 ) و ( 11 / 345 ).​

“Of the things of this world, women and perfume have been made dear to me, and my comfort is in prayer”

It was narrated by al-Nasaa’i, 3939 from the hadeeth of Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him).

It was classed as saheeh by al-Haakim (2/174), and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. It was also classed as saheeh by al-Haafiz ibn Hajar in Fath al-Baari, 15/3 and 11/345.

I couldn`t find the authenticity of the additions (the sayings of the companions and Jibreel, until the end of that "hadeeth") anywhere. I doubt it is authentic. If it is, please inform us of the chain of transmission or its authenticity.

May Allah reward you too. Ameen. I am not sure, you may be right, I may be wrong, Allahu Alam. Like I said I wrote it out from the translated version of Fazaa'il-e-A'maal, and thats about all it says, that it was reproduced from Munabbihaat by Ibn Hajar. And thats about all I know about it.

May Allah forgive me if its not authentic and not really a Hadeeth for sharing it.
