Is makeup haram for a sister to wear outside her house?
Is makeup haram for a sister to wear outside her house?
Aisha wore makeup. Kohl is permissible.
Like everything in Islam, walk the middle road, the straight path. Intentions count and if you put it on dark like a streetwalker, then well, tone it down.
Allah made women the way we are, we like pretty colors, jewelry, makeup. Just use it the right way and for the right reasons.
Some women don't feel good without some makeup, for instance, if you don't have eyebrows, have rosacea, or scars.
Looking your best for Allah is good. If you do it to get attention, then its bad.
I always think of looking my best when I go into public. It is the image of Islam.

Where does it SAY that a woman cannot wear make up? I haven't read anything that says make up is haram.<br>Random Notions
Assalam aliekum
There are different ways to wear make-up. I wear just a touch to cover up blemishes and a scar, as well as to even out my skin. Most people think I do not wear any make-up, as I put it on in a way to NOT be noticeable (and I did this before becoming Muslim as well).
If you wear it like some ladies, with the super dark eyeliner and bright colored eyelids and blazing red lipstick, I would think easily, yeah, that is too much. But what about minor "touch-ups"?
Lana
Alhamduliallah...I am like you sister Lana...make-up is a method to cover up those annoying problems like blemishes and what not...only sometimes...I do wear kohl..and I know it's bad...but I'm Arab...and that's like our trademark...lol...we just love our kohl...but I am now trying to stay away from doing that because it brings focus onto my eyes...
Sadly...I have seen some sisters who put on make up like they're going to a wedding when they're going on a stroll through the *local mall*...that just BAFFLES ME...and I don't know what would be the justification for *that* kind of make-up...may allah guide them
Other than that though..I think putting make-up for most practicing Muslimahs...like sister Lana said...is to cover up imperfections of the skin..and I do not think it would be considered a harm if it's toned down and is practically neutral in colors and all...

Is it allowed to put lipstick only for your husband. Some say that lipstick contains pig fat. Is it true? In such a case are we allowed to apply lipstick? Please advise.
Praise be to Allaah.
The basic principle is that anything that is used for adornment and beautification is permissible. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“He it is Who created for you all that is on earth”
[al-Baqarah 2:29]
That may be mustahabb if the intention is to beautify yourself for your husband, because this is something that is prescribed in sharee’ah.
But this is subject to the condition that nothing haraam is involved, such as adorning yourself for non-mahram men to whom it is not permissible to show your beauty. It is also subject to the condition that it does not contain any substance that may harm the body or that is impure such as pig fat. In that case it is haraam, because we are forbidden to do things that will harm us, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “there should be no harming or reciprocating harm.”

With all due respect to you sister aisha but...
The fatwas posted do not fit the context of a sister who say...has skin problems and wishes to cover them up...not because she wants to show off..but because the problems may cause her embarrassment and/or emotional discomfort...
One fatwa has to do with *adornment for a husband*...and the other with *marriage proposals*...in other words...they speak of two *very* specific instances which do not take other *possibilities* which may arise for sisters into consideration...
In addition...the 2nd fatwa is presented in a manner which gives the scholar opinion of the covering the face (i.e. wearing niqab) being a must or a matter *already* present...and it is not taking into consideration (yet again) the sisters who do not and perhaps at time CANNOT wear niqab or a face covering...
Thus...I think the fatwas are too narrow and specific for the nature of the issue presented and some of the scenarios discussed...
I hope I am not offending you...as I am only expressing my view
Every believing woman is obliged to cover her beauty and adornment before non-mahram men, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”
[al-Noor 24:31]
Adornment includes kohl, makeup, jewellery, etc.
With regard to the words at the beginning of the verse – “And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent” – what is meant by “that which is apparent” is the clothing, abayah (outer garment) and headcover, and whatever appears unintentionally, because of the wind, for example.
Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: i.e., she should not show anything of her adornment to non-mahrams,

well sister...because I know that kohl will "beautify" my eyes...I prefer to stay away from it...but I put foundation on to hide the small blemishes and all that...so you see I try to be careful and not to go beyond this matter...
thanks so much for the input though
Take Care
salam aleikum sister
Im not a scholar and Im not dictating anyone here what to do .Everyone has their own choise ..So its p to you to choose to wear make up outside or not ,and to attract the men looking at you..
But subhanAllah what can be more clear then this ...

kohl also beautify my eyes but my mom said its okay because its sunnah and i guess we use it to beautify our eyes, and cuz its sunnah, she said its called, "islamic makeup" lol. but anyways, since i think you are much older than me, do you think i have the right intention of wearing it, cuz i wear it cuz its "pretty" and its sunnah. do you think this is the right intention?

Ao'otho billah sister...
What makes you so sure that I make it a *CHOICE* to put on make-up so men look at me and get attracted???...
you should have noticed that upon reading the new fatwa you posted...I deleted *my* post...and stated that *the fatwas changed*...
thus acknowledging that my reply is *NO LONGER RELEVANT*...as the fatwas are somewhat close to what I personally believe
I do not see why you quoted it..and replied to it...I'm confused by that!!!
anyway...sobhanallah...I expressed a perspective...only to receive an insult...
Hasbiya Allah Wa Ne'ema Al-Wakeel...
Before I leave this thread for good...and this *website altogether* as well!!!
I will say that...I have not heard the claim of kohl being a sunnah before so I cannot argue with you from this stance...however...since it does beautify the eye and it brings attention to it...and I personally put on make-up to hide some skin problems such blemishes...I try my very best to keep my make-up neutral...without colors...or defining of certain facial features...such as the eyes..the lips..etc.
I think you should research the topic a little (i.e. kohl being a sunnah)...have clear understanding over the issue completely...and reflect upon what sounds to fit you as a young Muslimah..and what doesn't...and may allah guide you to what pleases Him
I leave you under the protection of allah...

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah (17/128): Many women in Egypt put kohl on their eyes, and if I tell them that wearing it for adornment is haraam, they say that it is Sunnah. Is that true?
Answer: Using kohl is prescribed in Islam, but it is not permissible for a woman to show any of her adornment, whether that is kohl or anything else, to anyone other than her husband or mahrams, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands…” End quote.
In conclusion: it is not permissible for a woman to wear kohl in front of none-mahram men, because it comes under the heading of adornment which she is required to conceal. If she is going from one house to another, where no non-mahram will see her, then there is nothing wrong with her wearing kohl in that case.
