Assalaamu'Alaykum,
Subhaan'Allaah!
I entered the masjid and prayed the 2 rak'at of entering the masjid. The Athaan for Isha was given but not by the mu'adhdhin - which was a suprise. So the thought was probably in everyone's mind - where is the mu'adhdhin. Anyway, we prayed Isha and then prayed Taraaweeh.
When the Imaam who leads the prayer came forward to lead Witr, there was a loud call from the back - "Ya Imaam Saab! Abu Khalid has passed away!" -
Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilaayhi Raaji'oon! Echoed in the hall!
Subhaan'Allaah, sorrow, sadness, fear of entering the Hell-fire and the fact that we will all taste death was felt in everyone's heart in the Masjid.
Everybody was sad, we were praying Witr and you could hear the cries of some of the people as well as in Du'a' Qunoot - may Allah have mercy on us all. Ameen.
From what i know, the brother was there at Iftar time and an ambulance was called - i do not know the actual reason, it could have been a heart problem or some other difficulty.
I think the brother knew my eldest brother and father. Subhaan'Allaah, my eldest said he was going to give salutation's to him but he didn't - he won't get a chance now.
Mu'awiyah (radhiyAllaahu anh) reported:
I heard the Messenger of Allah
saying:
"The Mu'adhdhinun (callers to prayer) will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection."
[Muslim]
Commentary: This Hadith highlights the eminence of Mu'adhdhin and Adhan. Adhan means calling people to the worship of Allah. Mu'adhdhin (the caller) gets reward for the Salat of all those who hear his Adhan. The phrase "will have the longest necks" has been given different interpretations. One of them is that they are those who long for the Mercy of Allah more than anyone else.
Another interpretation is that their necks will grow longer on the Day of Requital and so sweat will not reach them, for every one will sweat on that day depending on his deeds: sweat will reach up to one's ankles or knees or waists. In the case of some people, sweat will reach up to their mouths. Another interpretation is that those who call Adhan will have an honourable and great status on the Day of Requital.

May Allah honour Aboo Khaalid and give him great status on the Day of Requital, forgive him and mercy on his soul.
Ameen.
Please remember him in your Du'a'.
I would also like to remind my self and you all of death. The link below is a video translation of a Khutbah given by Salaah al-Budayr on Death - February 15th 2008. Insha'Allaah please watch it. i have attached the text, obtained from Haraman Recordings. [So you have choice - Alhamdu'Lillaah.]
