Misconcepts about Jinn

My dear friends,

My name is Muhammed Azhar, I'm from India 18 Yr old student also doing research and studies on Islam.

In this beautiful site it was very very sad to see so many people having misconception on the matter about Jinn.Mainly so many have mixed Shaitan and Jinn together as one. And alot of people so much curious on the same matter.

First of all Shaitan or Iblis[Satan] and Jinn are not the same.

It is quoted in the glorious Qur'an :


"And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves unto Adam." So they prostrated themselves except Iblis (Satan). He was one of the jinn; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zalimun (polytheists, and wrong-doers)"
{Al-Kahf, Chapter 18, Verse 50}

For further reference:- {Al-Hijr, Chapter 15, Verse 27}.

From here it is understood that Iblis was one of a Jinn, and that doesn't mean all Jinn are Iblis, all Jinn are not evil though there are evil amongst the Jinn just like as they are in humans.

There are good Jinns just like as humans. And they are the muslims,who fear the Almighty, pray to him, Ibadat him, you could very well see that Allah says in his Qur'an it is not for humans alone. Everywhere in Quran you see Alamin (mankind, Jinn and all that exists); just like Qur'an prophet Muhammed(s) was also send as a messenger for all to follow.

In the surah Al-Jinn it is clear that there are muslim among the Jinn

"And I (Allah) created not the Jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)"
{Adh-Dhariyat, Chapter 51, Verse 56}


Only Allah can harm you,save you and do good to you, no Jinn or Iblis can physically harm no one indirectly nor directly, though they could whisper in our ears and our thoughts to do evil. But this also to only those who are in their path those who have evil in themself; they could never harm a real Muslim in anyways except as Allah permits. And in Allah let the believers put their trust. And sometimes Allah tests your sincirity towards him but fear not as he hears everything see everything, he is the All knower.

"His[Satan] power is only over those who obey and follow him (Satan), and those who join partners with Him (Allah i.e. those who are Mushrikun i.e. polytheists).
{An-Nahl, Chapter 16, Verse 100}

"And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitan (Satan), then seek refuge with Allah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower".
{Al-Araf, Chapter 7, Verse 200}

"Shaitan (Satan) threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Fahsha (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins); whereas Allah promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower".
{Al-Baqara, Chapter 2, Verse268}


"It is only Shaitan (Satan) that suggests to you the fear of his Auliya' [supporters and friends (polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger, Muhammad (S)]; so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers".
{ Aal-e-Imran, Chapter 3, Verse 175}

[Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them."(Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me. "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawun (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers)"
{Al-Hijr, Chapter 15, Verse 39-42}

And Muhammed (S) has strongly advised to his ummat never think too much and have too much curiosity about the supernatural powers ( which includes Angels,Jinn,Shaitan .. etc) that which may invite Kuffr. There are many incidents in the history where various Islamic thinkers deviated from the path of real Islam through these and started practicing black magic and started praying to these powers, which is SHIRK and a sin that is never forgiven by his most Merciful Allah.

Even this kind of curiosites and doubts about these super natural powers are due to Shaitan, he is the one who whispers in our ears and mind, so when ever we started getting lost in these matter of subjects quickly think of Allah, pray to him to save from the evil whisperers and to forgive thy sins.

jazakallah khayr ya brother for the clarification.. really good points you mention.. on the other hand i dont think there are many people who misunderstand the issue here.. because this subject is spoken many times among the members.. and there are really great brothers and sisters here who has deep knowledge about Islam and they directly show the right way with proof from hadith or quran.. and alhamdulilah each member learns something from one another here..

Good post, and good to clear misconceptions.. It's understandable why peolpe would believe all jins are bad, because there head chief iblees is amongts them.
Anyways as we see in the Quran there are good jins who are muslims.
and Allah is the guide and the haqq.

I am not going to respond to this poll. It seems it places the poster on one side or they other and indirectly says he/she is right/wrong. This thread holds no water as you have yet to even place any factual proof rather you have brought forth a one sided argument with no leverage to ether side. I rather you bring forth both sides of the story and let us break it down rather you interpreting it for us. I see that you trying to help but in this case you are mistaken.
