‘Preacher to 1 million followers’ Al Ustadz Zainuddin MZ passes away

Prominent Muslim preacher Zainuddin Muhammad Zein (Kiyai Zainuddin MZ) passed away on Tuesday morning at the Pertamina Hospital in South Jakarta.

Al Ustadz Mr Zainuddin was 60 years of age.
RCTI television reported that the preacher, affectionately known as dai sejuta umat (the preacher to 1 million followers), was taken to the hospital’s emergency room at 9:20 a.m. in critical condition.
Al Ustadz Mr Zainuddin's son,Mr Lutfi, said his father died of a heart attack.
“After the dawn prayer, his father [Al Ustadz Zainuddin] had breakfast
. He passed out soon after breakfast,”Al Ustadz Zainuddin's son,
Mr Lutfi said, adding that the million-follower preacher
had a history of high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
His jenazah(body) were later taken to his residence in Gandaria, South Jakarta.
Born on March 2, 1951,Mr Zainuddin entered into politics after joining the United Development Party (PPP).
In 2003,Al Ustadz Mr Zainuddin resigned from the party as a result of an internal conflict, and founded the Star Reform Party (PBR), which later split into two factions.
Al Ustadz Mr Zainuddin eventually rejoined the PPP, only to jump ship again to join Gerindra in the 2009 election.
The respectable Al Ustadz Mr Zainuddin to college at IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah and managed to get a doctorate honoris causa from the University Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Al Ustadz Mr Zainuddin is survived by his wife and four children.
