Related photos / videos The Government is funding 32 Muslim projects in a move to tackle extremism The Preventing Violent Extremism Community Leadership Fund (CLF) is worth £5.1 million over three years.
Junior communities minister Sadiq Khan said the CLF would fund a "more diverse and more wide-reaching" range of projects than before.
These include internet-based projects, public sector projects and projects for women and young people.
The CLF was set up in 2007 to support Muslim communities to tackle violent extremism by developing the leadership skills of faith leaders, young people and women.
Mr Khan said: "We have seen the number of applications double compared to last year, showing clearly that Muslim communities are fully committed to doing all they can to tackle violent extremism and promote shared values to all who may be at risk of radicalisation.
"The projects being funded through the CLF are now reaching right across the length and breadth of the country, and will be key in helping to improve leadership skills of those in the wide ranging diaspora of Muslim communities and groups."
In 2007-08, the total fund was £650,000 to support 19 organisations.
Mr Khan said that from 2008-09 to 2010-11, the CLF had increased to around £5.1 million.
