MUST I PRAY EVEN THOUGH ...

Assalammualaikum, I would like to ask a question, if that's OK.

I've had a curious problem recently. I had period cramps on Wednesday night, and on Thursday morning I saw that some reddish-brown stains were there. Since I wasn't sure if those were period stains (since its happened before), I continued praying in hopes that the real period would follow and I wouldn't need to pray. But its Sunday evening now, and my 'real' period hasn't come. I'm worried about all my prayers that I have prayed within the time I've been waiting for my real period, what if I didn't have a long period, and my period's limit time was on Thursday? Were all my prayers null and void, and have I sinned by praying? What should I do now? Should I bathe my purifying bath now, or continue praying? Please reply ASAP. Thanks very much everyone, May ALLAH Bless you.

Salam alaikum!

If you see any colour which is near to red that's the real period, fully from start to end even if it's the lightest fade, you haven't sinned because you didn't know, seek for Allah's forgiveness incase, He understands everyone.

Whenever you get cramps the day before, then wake up seeing the smallest colour of red, don't pray.

P.S Remember to not pray for 7 days, e.g. from Thursday morning , to thursday morning, so that it's accurately one week, this way you'd never be unsure about when you can start or end prayer anymore, InshaAllah

Ask me if you need more help my sister!!

Wa'alaikumussalam sis!

Thanks very much for the answer! I took my purifying bath, so I'm satisfied.
I really appreciate your time and explanation. I love this forum~
Sis, one more question. Is it compulsory to rub or use our fingers/hands to wipe our body during the purifying bath? Or is it OK to just make sure water reaches that area with a small bucket or shower or something? This has been something I've always wanted to ask.

Happy to answer your question my sister,

''Rubbing'' is only a phrase which ensures that your not careless on having every cell of the body washed, other than that, you can just pour over, but it's most likely that people would rub the parts that are hard to get to, or normally rub the back or whatever, just an easier way.

Hope that answered your question!

Salam alaikum brother,

Yes I felt the same way, that this matter is for us ladies, but she needed the answer ASAP and I didn't want to reply by saying take this to the sister's section.

Please forgive me if this has disturbed any of you men, I'm sure your mature and sensible enough to understand these kind of issues.

Again, forgive me, you've done no harm but told the truth my brother, now we're aware

Regarding your first question: Then Shaykh Saalih ibn `Uthaymeen rahimhullaah said regarding the brownish discharge: "You know that it marks the onset of the period if it is accompanied with pains and cramps. But if the brownish discharge comes after the period, the woman should wait until it goes away, because the brownish discharge that follows on from the period is also hayd (menstrual blood), as ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “Do not be in a hurry until you see the white discharge.”

With regards to your second question: Then it is not waajib to rub the body with your hands etc, but it should be made sure that the water reaches every single part of the body.

Imaam An Nawawi mentioned that it is mustahabb according to their madh-hab (i.e Shafi`iyyah), and this was mentioned is his Al-Majmoo`.

It was also the opinion of majority of the scholars that rubbing is not waajib. Remember, you have to be certain that water has reached all parts of the body, like the back of the knees, ankles, between fingers etc.

No, brother, its OK. Since my question has been answered, I wouldn't mind if the moderators deleted this thread or moved it to the Sister's section. They may feel free to do do. Looking back, the title of the topic is rather misleading, so I wouldn't mind if the mods decide to do anything with it. Oh, and do forgive me for putting this topic where it didn't belonged to; I'll try and be a bit more careful to put it in the right place in the future.

Brother Thariq, as always, I know your answers are very elaborate, good and reliable. Thanks so much for that explanation; I feel quite at peace about the matter, since it was weighing on my mind after the bath.
