حَدَّثَنَاابْنُنُمَيْرٍ،حَدَّثَنَاحَنْظَلَةُ،عَنْسَالِمِبْنِعَبْدِاللهِبْنِعُمَرَ،عَنِابْنِعُمَرَ،قَالَ: رَأَيْتُرَسُولَاللهِصَلَّىاللهُعَلَيْهِوَسَلَّمَ: يُشِيرُبِيَدِهِيَؤُمُّالْعِرَاقَ: " هَا،إِنَّالْفِتْنَةَهَاهُنَا،هَا،إِنَّالْفِتْنَةَهَاهُنَا، - ثَلَاثَمَرَّاتٍمِنْحَيْثُيَطْلُعُقَرْنُالشَّيْطَانِ " [مسندأحمدطالرسالة (10/ 391 رقم/6302/ 6129 ) واسنادہصحیحعلیشرطالشیخین]

Abdullah Ibn `Umar related that once, he saw the Prophet showing `Iraq with his hand, and saying: "The fitna is here, the fitna is here, the fitna is here, three times, it is from here that will appear the devil's horns,"(sahih)

حَدَّثَنَاعَبْدُاللَّهِبْنُعُمَرَبْنِأَبَانَ،وَوَاصِلُبْنُعَبْدِالأَعْلَى،وَأَحْمَدُبْنُعُمَرَالْوَكِيعِيُّ،-وَاللَّفْظُلاِبْنِأَبَانَ - قَالُواحَدَّثَنَاابْنُفُضَيْلٍ،
عَنأَبِيهِ،قَالَسَمِعْتُسَالِمَبْنَعَبْدِاللَّهِ،بْنِعُمَرَيَقُولُيَاأَهْلَالْعِرَاقِمَاأَسْأَلَكُمْعَنِالصَّغِيرَةِوَأَرْكَبَكُمْلِلْكَبِيرَةِسَمِعْتُأَبِيعَبْدَاللَّهِبْنَعُمَرَيَقُولُسَمِعْتُرَسُولَاللَّهِصلىاللهعليهوسلميَقُولُ"إِنَّالْفِتْنَةَتَجِيءُمِنْهَاهُنَا".وَأَوْمَأَبِيَدِهِنَحْوَالْمَشْرِقِ"مِنْحَيْثُيَطْلُعُقَرْنَاالشَّيْطَانِ"
.وَأَنْتُمْيَضْرِبُبَعْضُكُمْرِقَابَبَعْضٍوَإِنَّمَاقَتَلَمُوسَىالَّذِيقَتَلَمِنْآلِفِرْعَوْنَخَطَأًفَقَالَاللَّهُعَزَّوَجَلَّلَهُقَالَأَحْمَدُبْنُعُمَرَفِيرِوَايَتِهِعَنْسَالِمٍلَمْيَقُلْسَمِعْتُ
Ibn Fudail reported on the authority of his father that he heard Salim ibn. 'Abdullah ibn. 'Umar as saying: O people of Iraq, how strange it is that you ask about the minor sins but commit major sins? I heard from my father 'Abdullah ibn. 'Umar, narrating that he heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying while pointing his hand towards the east: Verily. the turmoil would come from this side, from where appear the horns of Satan and you would strike the necks of one another.
Even Sahaba referred East as ''IRAQ"
.فَقَالَالنَّاسُنَعَمْ"فَإِنَّهُأَعْجَبَنِيحَدِيثُتَمِيمٍأَنَّهُوَافَقَالَّذِيكُنْتُأُحَدِّثُكُمْعَنْهُوَعَنِالْمَدِينَةِوَمَكَّةَأَلاَإِنَّهُفِيبَحْرِالشَّامِأَوْبَحْرِالْيَمَنِلاَبَلْمِنْقِبَلِالْمَشْرِقِماهُوَمِنقِبَلِالْمَشْرِقِمَاهُوَمِنْقِبَلِالْمَشْرِقِمَاهُوَ".وَأَوْمَأَبِيَدِهِإِلَىالْمَشْرِقِ.قَالَتْفَحَفِظْتُهَذَامِنْرَسُولِاللَّهِصلىاللهعليهوسلم
Behold he (Dajjal) is in the Syrian sea (Mediterranean) or the Yemen sea (Arabian sea). Nay, on the contrary, he As In the east, he is in the east, he is in the east, and he pointed with his hand towards the east. I (Fatima bint Qais) said: I preserved It In my mind (this narration from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him).
إِنَّهُخَارِجٌخَلَّةًبَيْنَالشَّأْمِوَالْعِرَاقِفَعَاثَيَمِينًاوَعَاثَشِمَالاًيَاعِبَادَاللَّهِفَاثْبُتُوا
He(Dajjal) would appear on the way between Syria and Iraq and would spread mischief right and left.

وَحَدَّثَنِيمَالِكٌ،أَنَّهُبَلَغَهُأَنَّعُمَرَبْنَالْخَطَّابِ،أَرَادَالْخُرُوجَإِلَىالْعِرَاقِفَقَالَلَهُكَعْبُالأَحْبَارِلاَتَخْرُجْإِلَيْهَايَاأَمِيرَالْمُؤْمِنِينَفَإِنَّبِهَاتِسْعَةَأَعْشَارِالسِّحْرِوَبِهَافَسَقَةُالْجِنِّوَبِهَاالدَّاءُالْعُضَالُ.
Malik related to me that he heard that Umar ibn al-Khattab wanted to go to Iraq, and Kabal-Ahbar said to him, "Do not go there, amir al-muminin. There is nine-tenths of sorcery there and it is the place of the rebellious jinn and the disease which the doctors are unable to cure."

From the innovations that appeared in the east and specifically Iraaq, was many of the early deviant sects amongst them the Qadariyyah, the Jahmiyyah Rafdis and their offshoots, Taqleed of Imams etc...

حَدَّثَنَامُوسَىبْنُإِسْمَاعِيلَ،حَدَّثَنَاعَبْدُالْوَاحِدِ،حَدَّثَنَاالشَّيْبَانِيُّ،حَدَّثَنَايُسَيْرُبْنُعَمْرٍو
،قَالَقُلْتُلِسَهْلِبْنِحُنَيْفٍهَلْسَمِعْتَالنَّبِيَّصلىاللهعليهوسلميَقُولُفِيالْخَوَارِجِشَيْئًاقَالَسَمِعْتُهُيَقُولُـوَأَهْوَىبِيَدِهِقِبَلَالْعِرَاقِـ "يَخْرُجُمِنْهُقَوْمٌيَقْرَءُونَالْقُرْآنَلاَيُجَاوِزُتَرَاقِيَهُمْ،يَمْرُقُونَمِنَالإِسْلاَمِمُرُوقَالسَّهْمِمِنَالرَّمِيَّةِ".
Narrated by Yusair bin 'Amr:
I asked Sahl bin Hunaif, "Did you hear the Prophet saying anything about Al-Khawarij?" He said, "I heard him saying while pointing his hand towards Iraq. "There will appear in it (i.e, Iraq) some people who will recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats,and they will go out from (leave) Islam as an arrow darts through the game's body.' "
Sahih Bukhari Volume 5, Book 57, Number 96:
حَدَّثَنَاعَبْدُاللَّهِبْنُعُمَرَبْنِأَبَانَ،وَوَاصِلُبْنُعَبْدِالأَعْلَى،وَأَحْمَدُبْنُعُمَرَالْوَكِيعِيُّ،-وَاللَّفْظُلاِبْنِأَبَانَ - قَالُواحَدَّثَنَاابْنُفُضَيْلٍ،عَنأَبِيهِ،قَالَسَمِعْتُسَالِمَبْنَعَبْدِاللَّهِ،بْنِعُمَرَيَقُولُيَاأَهْلَالْعِرَاقِمَاأَسْأَلَكُمْعَنِالصَّغِيرَةِوَأَرْكَبَكُمْلِلْكَبِيرَةِسَمِعْتُأَبِيعَبْدَاللَّهِبْنَعُمَرَيَقُولُسَمِعْتُرَسُولَاللَّهِصلىاللهعليهوسلميَقُولُ
"إِنَّالْفِتْنَةَتَجِيءُمِنْهَاهُنَا".وَأَوْمَأَبِيَدِهِنَحْوَالْمَشْرِقِ"مِنْحَيْثُيَطْلُعُقَرْنَاالشَّيْطَانِ".
وَأَنْتُمْيَضْرِبُبَعْضُكُمْرِقَابَبَعْضٍوَإِنَّمَاقَتَلَمُوسَىالَّذِيقَتَلَمِنْآلِفِرْعَوْنَخَطَأًفَقَالَاللَّهُعَزَّوَجَلَّلَهُقَالَأَحْمَدُبْنُعُمَرَفِيرِوَايَتِهِعَنْسَالِمٍلَمْيَقُلْسَمِعْتُ
Narrated Ibn Abi Nu'm:
A person asked 'Abdullah bin 'Umar whether a Muslim could kill flies.I heard him saying (in reply). "The people of Iraq are asking about the killing of flies while they themselves murdered the son of the daughter of Allah's Apostle . The Prophet said, They (i.e. Hasan and Husain) are my two sweet basils in this world."
