Nothing. It is a Song. He is a Singer. Nasheeds are not from Islam. People must remember this.

My advice is to listen to the Quran.

One must remember that these Nasheeds and songs are not "Islamic songs". They are just songs sung by people about Islam or on this theme. Most of whom do so for money and spend their time doing this.

Many "Nasheeds" have problems. Some people concentrate on the music in them, like piano, guitar etc, but this is not the biggest problem. The biggest problem are those songs that contain incorrect lyrics. Those that say incorrect things about Allah and about the Prophet :saw:. Sufi songs.

People often spend a lot of time listening nasheeds and not listening to the Quran.

The Sahaba and early Muslims only listened or read Nasheed when they went for battle or long journeys. Those nasheed were akin to advanced Arabic poetry. The lyrics were those based on Quran and Sunnah.

Infact, they tended to see men who sang songs as effeminate. They were laughed at. Only women sang in those days!!

Basic Nasheed are OK for children to listen to as it benefit them. Many of the scholars would write and read nasheed for their children, such as shaykh Ibn Uthaimeen Rahimahullah.

Today, we have phenomenon of people attending concerts and listening to these popstars singing about their wives etc. You even have grown Muslim women screaming and cheering at male singers on stage. It is ridiculous and very ignorant. Even people place some sort of rank on these singers and compare them to Scholars of Islam. Yet, these singers dont know much about Islam, how can they when they spend all their time singing?

People should read Quran, memorise Quran (another thing that people are failing to do), busy their time with learning Islam rather than spending too much on listening to songs. Whether Islamic or not. We have A LOT of work to do!! Leave the Nasheeds for children or if you do listen, to a minimum.

A lot of scholars they say it is allowed, but as long as it is without music and without bad lyrics. However, these days people dont know what is and what is not correct in the nasheeds.

Nearly everyone listens to the Sufi Burdah song, which starts like "salli wa salim ala ali muhamadin... Qasidah Burdah - The Cloak of Love or Ignorance?

NASHEED please READ

Others even say it is totally haram to listen to nasheed.

Even if you do not understand Arabic, LISTEN to the Qur'aan. It is the word of Allah, nothing can compare to it everrrrr.. How sad it is that people will listen to an effeminate man with such strange English and not to the Quran.

You may not like what I say, but most of these singers (Sami Yusuf) would not have sold any music if it wasnt for the lucrative wishy washy Muslim market. His song have mistakes in aqeedah as he mixes his Sufi teachings into it. For example, in his song he calls upon the Prophet Muhammad :saw: . The Prophet :saw: was the best of mankind and we love him dearly, but, we know that he was human being. He died. He can not hear us or our prayers. We should always direct our prayers to Allah alone! - When someone does not do this and calls upon the Prophet :saw: or to anyone else, this is Shirk. (associating partners with Allah). Mr Sami Yusuf and many other singers do the same mistake.

Asking Help and Calling upon Other Than Allah is Shirk

So, we should be stronger, using each minute of our time to do good. Reading, Learning and telling our family and friends and others around us what we learn and do. For Islam is our life, we are weak because of mishy mashy things like this. Now, we have Islamic conferences and they spend 2 out of 3 days singing songs!!! THe rest of the time spent with people listening to ignorant people, politicians and other nonsense.

Its time for us to do our best as Ummah, education... Look at the time of the early Muslims, how they studied and how we are today. We are so far from that. Allah help us all.

a question?

The original “Burda Shareef” contains no words of polytheism(as long as i know). It is a different thing if someone has added or deleted anything from it. On the other hand, the Holy Prophet (SAWS) was all praise for it. However i avoid reciting it.There was a verse: "And part of your knowledge is the knowlege of the Tablet and the Pen..." So PART of the knowledge of the Prophet (SAW) is the knoewledge that is encompassed in the LAwh al-Mahufdh - the tablet that has EVERYTHING written on it!! and that is only 'part' of his knowledge!! Compare this mystic poem with the authentic hadeeth in Bukhari where a young girl said "And we have a prophet who knows what will happen tommorrow.' to which the Prophet (SAW) said, "Leave this (bit), and say the rest of it."

Turn To Islam
THE ruling on Islamic nasheeds

Question:
What is the ruling on Islamic nasheeds that are free of music?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

The clear saheeh texts indicate in a number of ways that it is permissible to recite poetry and listen to it. It was narrated in saheeh reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his noble Companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) listened to verse, recited it (as nasheed) and asked others to recite it, both when they were travelling and when they stayed at home, in their gatherings and whilst they were working, individually, as in the case of Hassaan ibn Thaabit, ‘Aamir ibn al-Akwa’ and Anjashah (may Allaah be pleased with them), and in unison, as in the hadeeth of Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) which describes the digging of the ditch (al-khandaq). Anas said:

When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saw how exhausted and hungry we were, he said (in verse):

“O Allaah, there is no life except the life of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansaar and the Muhaajireen.”

And they said in response:

“We are the ones who have pledged allegiance to Muhammad, to make jihaad for as long as we live.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3/1043)

And in gatherings too: Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated with a hasan isnaad that Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahmaan said: “The Companions of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not speak in devious tones or in a soft manner. They used to recite verses in their gatherings, denouncing the affairs of their jaahiliyyah, but if it was the matter of their religion, they would become very serious and cautious (8/711).

This evidence indicates that nasheeds are permissible, whether recited individually or in unison. The word nasheed in Arabic means raising the voice when reciting verse and making the voice sound beautiful and gentle.

There are conditions to which attention must be paid with regard to this matter:

Not using forbidden musical instruments in nasheed.

Not doing it too much or making it the focus of the Muslim’s mind, occupying all his time, or neglecting obligatory duties because of it.

Nasheed should not be recited by women, or include haraam or obscene speech.

They should not resemble the tunes of the people of immorality and promiscuity.

They should be free of vocal effects that produce sounds like those of musical instruments.

They should not have moving tunes which make the listener feel “high” as happens to those who listen to songs. This is the case with many of the nasheeds which appear nowadays, so that the listeners no longer pay any attention to the good meaning of the words, because they are so entranced by the tunes. And Allaah is the Source of strength.

Nasheeds and music

I have to agree with the comments our brothers have made above. Some of these Nasheeds I enjoy as they carry a powerful message as like last breath from Ahmed Bukhatir and Kamal Uddin. I listen to these as they are a reminder to us.

I have heard many Nasheeds where I have thought these are just an imitation of english music, rap song etc with a Islamic theme applied and thought do these people not understand when you imitate the a non-believer you are commiting a sin and it is Haram. Allah knows best and only he is able to guide these people asa they seem to think they are doing nothing wrong and appealing to the muslim youth and bringing them to Islam.

My question to these people is how can you justify spreading Islam if it is not from the sunnat and teachings of the Prophet SAW. Only Allah knows best and he guides the ones he wishes and says the fools fool no one but themselves. We can only pray for them that they see the truth and most importantly understand it and change their ways.

nasheed from bollywood songs

I am a bit confused regarding the topic nasheeds and songs....

I know a mosque in my locality where people sings religious songs and they say that it
helps them coming closer to Allah.

They dont use music instruments nor the wordings contain explicit materials.
In fact the wordings are based on events such as birth of prophet, trajedy of karbala and so on...

But the tones of these nasheeds or songs ( or any other name given) came from bollywood songs.

Does that make it haraam?
