assalamu alaikum

I have a couple of questions:

Is wearing makeup outside the home, committing zina (adultery) the way perfume does if a man smells it?

Also can you wear perfume and pray with it if you are at home?

Also, what books would you recommend to someone who wants to increase their knowledge of Islam? I already know the basic but i want to read books that contain points backed up by relevant authentic hadith or verses from the Quran.

And finally someone told me that when you've finished reading the whole Quran you should get some water and blow in a glass, or something to that effect! is that true? is there anything special we should do when we've completed the Quran?

I know it's a lot of questions but I don't really know anyone that has much islamic knowledge so you lot would be helping me out and getting rewarded by Allah at the same time insha'allah!

Jazakallah khair!

I'm a born muslim from the UK. I want to learn more about Islam and I don't like giving information to people about Islam without backing it up with a hadith or Quranic verses and I just want to gain more knowledge by reading books because it's easier to find information. This website is extremely helpful alhamdulillah but I want books by well-known Islamic scholars or sheiks, imams etc so that I'm sure that I have the right knowledge. Books about science and Islam are appealing to me and women in Islam and possibly books about an insight into the Quran or miracles of the Quran, although I have found lots of info on the net but I prefer books!

shukran

knowledge sal12

:salam2:
sal12 learning Islam is compulsory on every muslim men and muslim woman.
however judging from your writing your intention seem to be to learn to tell others.

You need to change your intention. The knowledge of Islam is not some other history or theology class as presented by other religions. It is the knowledge from Allah (SWT) revealed onto His last prophet Muhammad (SWS). What we all are after is the nur and barakah that comes with this knowledge. The light that will enlighten our hearts and illuminate our actions first. Otherwise Islam would become another package of information circulating on the internet and there would be praising and plaudits for the one who could market the package in the most attractive manner.

Know this, a muslims primary goal is to please Allah and knowledge must be acquired to learn Allah (SWT) will. So here you need to change your niyah (intention). Once you do this you will see changes in yourself. Allah will give you knowledge or lead you to the source that will bring you closer to Allah (SWT). The nur and barakah I mentioned earlier can not be described in words however when Allah gives you that nur you will know it.

If you're young and want to become an aalim then join a good madrasa if you dont feel like becoming an aalim then keep company of good practising aalims in your locality. Allah will not let you down.

no it's knowledge for myself first and foremost of course and your right ,alhamdulillah I have defo felt a big change because I've been learning from this website but sometimes when people ask me questions I don't have the answer to it and I have nobody to ask. Also if I do THINK I know the answer I always want to provide evidence for fear of being wrong because that would be haraam wouldnt it? Usually when i know the answer it's because I've heard it from someone so learning about Islam will help me gain knowledge insha'allah. This website is brill and I will always continue to use it.

I just wanted to know if anyone have read any books that they recommend. That's it! :S

Asalaamu'Alykum,

Well several books have helped me.

Kitab-at-Tawheed - The Book of Monotheism by Abdul Wahhab (Check his others books too) (You need the lectures by Yasir Qadhi to maximise the benefit. If you want the link i will provide, i am just hesistant.)

Belief in Allah by Umar Al-Ashqar - I moved onto this after completing the above, i have not completed this but i just felt it would reinforce my understanding.

Sealed Nectar (Ar-Raheequl Maktum) - This was really good initially learning about the life of the Prophet :saw: {Make sure you buy the full version]

Life of the Prophet :saw: Volume 1-4 by Ibn Kathir - again it may seem pointless to buy this but i wanted to reinforce my understanding, plus its in more depth and lectures are available for this too. But it costs £££. You could just get this instead of the above but it could look more daunting.

Don't be Sad - everyone needs to have this. :)

Riyad-us-Saliheen by Imam An-Nawawi - specific chapters, with Hadiths and commentary. Like a chapter in relation to Patience followed with hadiths and commentary.

The 4 Books relation to Marriage by Muhammad Al-Jibaly - i can't remember the exact names of them all but Insh'Allah you should be able to find it.

Book of the End: Great Trials & Tribulations by Ibn Kathir - Very good and detailed.

Small books such as:

Fortress of the Muslim (Pocket-size, invocations for specific times, occcassions etc, like Leaving the house, entering the home, entering the toilet leaving.)

The Prophet's Prayer :saw: by Al-Albani (May Allah have mercy on him) - very good.

The Path to Guidance by Ibn Al-Qayyim (May Allah have mercy on him) - this looks good, i had a flick through but it looks good.

Knowledge by Shaykh Abdullah Bin Baz (May Allah have mercy on him)

Thats pretty much what i can think of. Check:

http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ref=14082&ln=eng

For more recommended books and check that website as a whole for answers from the Qur'an and Authentic Sunnah in relation to common questions you maybe faced with.

Insh'Allah this has helped, if there is any books i have mentioned others do not agree with just say :)

EDIT: Sisters will be able provide recommendations for books in relation to sisters. :)

Some of the books maybe very detailed, a brother or sister may point this out but it matters on each person. Sorry for the overflow of information, the main starter is Tawheed & Life of the Prophet :saw:.

Alhamdulilah

I was going to wait for you to reply but the books are in the wrong order in terms of which one's to buy first. Please make sure you get Knowledge by Abdullah bin Baz (May Allah have mercy on him) because it is good before you start on the other stuff.
