For the past couple of days I've been looking for this particular hadith regarding generosity. From what I remember, it talks about when someone (admires)/likes something that you own/possess, you should give it to them as sadaqa. Anyone know what I'm talking about here. I can't remember where I read this before. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks..

:salam2:

There is a verse in the Quran, the translation of the meaning:

Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allah] from that which you love. And whatever you spend - indeed, Allah is Knowing of it {3:92}

And in a hadith:

the Prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) observed: one amongst you believes (truly) till one likes for his brother or for his neighbour that which he loves for himself.
{Muslim, 1-72}

That's the closest I can think of.

You mentioned "If someone like thing that is under your ownership, you should give it as sadaqah"

I don't think there is True Profit Saying (Haddeth Sahih) carrying this meaning!

Because Sadaqah in Islam is optional recommended (you mentioned should give!)
