Netherlands may Ban Muslim Veils

THE NETHERLANDS may soon issue a complete ban on Muslim veils after its government announced to outlaw the wearing of niqab, or full-face veil, as well as the burqa, cloak covering the head, in public spaces.
If the Dutch government issued such a ruling, Netherlands will be the first European state to impose a nationwide ban on the Muslim veil.

The debate on the Muslim women’s right to wear the full-face veil, or niqab, and whether it prevents Muslims from integrating into Western societies has gathered momentum all over Europe, following remarks by key British leaders, calling on Muslim women to take off their niqabs.

The right-leaning coalition said it would seek a way to ban all Muslim face-veils. Last December, the Dutch parliament voted in favor of a proposal by far-right politician Geert Wilders, seeking to criminalize face coverings, for what it said were “security concerns.”

Dutch lawmakers asked Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk to examine the feasibility of such proposal. Verdonk stated that the government would now push for a total ban on Muslim veils, even though the legislation would contradict Dutch religious freedom laws. “The cabinet finds the wearing of a burqa undesirable ... but cannot at present enforce a total ban,” Verdonk was quoted by the Dutch news agency, ANP, as saying. But she affirmed that the government would try to find a way around this.

“The government will search for the possibility to provide a ban,” her spokeswoman told Reuters news agency. According to Muslim groups, who warned that such a move would only result in increasing the feelings of victimization and alienation, only 50 women out of 1 million Dutch Muslims wear the burqa or the niqab. “What the government is doing now is totally disproportionate to the number of women who actually wear the burqa,” said Ayhan Tonca, chairperson of an umbrella group of Dutch Muslim organizations. “The legislation we already have to protect people for security reasons is adequate,” he added.

first of all, the government is busy with this thing since 9/11 and they can't do it because of the first law i don't know what it is called in english(constitutional law?)

second, the number 50 (women with faceveils) isn'right what so ever, i already know almost 20 and i live in small town.

The umbrella organisation for muslims here is nothing more than a group off turkish/moroccan people with suits, no beards, no sunnah clothing and a title as 'islam experts' So don't be affraid of this prohibition for veils and don't pay attention to this muslimorganisation, because if the government can change the law, this organisation can't and will do nothing, because of the fear that they won't fit in anymore with the rats that lead our country. Don't cry before we get beaten sisters, let them struggle, they can't get us down!!!!

Ya let them make women walk half naked to improve the security!!!. what kind of stupidity is this, if they have any issue with some one wearing a compelete hijab all they have to do is to pull them on the side and a women officer can check with them.

What kind of stupid leaders we have now days. they dont deserve to be even a cleaner ain goverment orgnization, the way they think is worse than a crazy person who dosent understand whats going on in this world/


Let them do what they want, but on other hand they dont have come and tell any Muslim country to have freedome of this and that. while they them self not following the freedom of free will.

muslims take their faith seriously, and the dutch gov't knows this. this ban is an attempt to make life in holland unbearable for muslims, by not being able to practice the religion as they see fit, causing the desire to leave the country. hence, the gov't can remove islam in holland with this tactic.

is barring the veil really a security issue? holland is a nation that has open use of marijuana, prostitution, is a nation know for pornography, gay marriage etc and they're questioning the security of their nation because of face veil?

yes, they banned it last week, it's about the veil saifullah, not all hijab, but everybody i know is still wearing it and nobody has had any trouble with it so far, alhamdulilah.:blackhijab:

yes it's crazy that our government is fine with the coffeshops(where they legally sell drugs) the prostitutes pay taxes and the veil is a danger to society??????? what is this?

there is a petition going on and people who are against this petition write comments, there are a lot of people who say they will rip it of our faces if they see us wearing it. I think this prohibition on the veil is making things worse here. I know if I meet someone trying to pull it off, I won't stand in for myself.

Maybe the time is coming near for Muslims to make Hijrah to Muslim countries. Even here in America it is becoming more difficult. There is so much hate here for Muslims and this corrupt gov't keeps pressing. My non-Muslim coworkers are at odds about what is going to happen to the US themselves. They have lost confidence in the gov't. Things are really falling apart around the globe. Oppression of the masses is growing rampant by the day.

I live in Holland and I don't understand why the want to ban muslim veils.
It is terribel to line in Holland.... you can not be the person that you want to be... you have to be like the Netherlands.... but that can not happen.

The dutch people are really difficult to understand....... they have done a research and the conclusion was that theire are a lot of moslim girl radicalised.........

I relly get angry about averything that they write and say about islam and muslims...... And I don't think that it will end.....

I hope that you have got a better live in a nother country... I don't know how it live in a nother country......

i really feel upset about things like this. but 2 all the muslims in Netherlands..dont leave the country to escape these racists attacks..i understand if u feel hurt by the decisions but i believe you should protest and lobby the government and try to prove 2 them their disicions are racist.
they want to put us down because they think we're weak..bt we shud prove them wrong..
i want there 2 be alot of pressure on all european govts to stop banning hijabs..they have no right to stop us from following our religion.
