nice khutba message yesterday

many times when a jummah khutba is delivered, it can almost put one to sleep. but then there is the rare occasion when there’s a special khutba delivered that really can be powerful and inspirational. that was the kind of khutba that was delivered yesterday. i don’t remember the name of the khateeb, but he had such a sincere and powerful way of making a speech. i was taken aback by his sincerity as he choked up when talking about Allah SWT and His messenger, Muhammad pbuh.

he reminded us about our need to be sincere in our everyday doings as muslims. very often, we can tend to be insincere and ungrateful to our obligations to Allah SWT. many of us are learning the memorization of the quran just to be admired by men. we should memorize it to strengthen our relationship with our Creator and to receive reward from it. people are giving out zakat or sadaqa to be praised by men instead of doing for the sake of Allah SWT. people are delaying their hajj so that they can take haram vacations, thinking that they have all the time in the world to perform hajj. the khateeb reminded us that none of us are promised to see tomorrow.

while he was explaining these things, he suddenly pointed to the back of the masjid; where there were two bodies placed in coffins awaiting their janazah ceremony. those people were the evidence, the proof, that you and i don’t have all the time in the world that we think that we have. the day those people died was unknown to them, and our days our unknown to us. it is for these reasons that we need to turn to Allah SWT in repentance and in worship. this was the message of the khutba delivered yesterday, so much different than the how to perform wudu khutbas that some of us have gotten used to.

Assalammualaikum,

Indeed life is short. You are right bro. A relative of mine just passed away on Sunday after maghrib at a hospital. He was fine just 20days ago. He suffered a sudden heart attack and was admitted into a hospital where he lied and his condition deteriorated and finally passed away. May Allah s.w.t. forgive all his sins and bless his soul. Amin. :tti_sister:

This is so true!! We are not doing the right thing as muslims!! We are not promised tomorrow, so lets make the most of today and treat each day as it is our last inshallah. Jazakallahu Khairan for this reminder!!:tti_sister:
