Arrogance

To the doctors and scientists and learned people of this world who thinks that they know more than the One True God Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala.
So you have achieved the highest standard of education and people look up to you with respect and your words carry weight. You have some letters after your name showing people that you are somebody in the community, in the town, in the world. But what you know is limited to the text books that you have read and the theories you support which somebody else has surmised. All this knowledge has falsely made you think that you know it all, there is nobody on this earth who knows more than you and that you know all the answers relevant to this universe.

In the Words of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala in His holy book, the Holy Qur’an the arrogant people are compared with Iblees when he refused to prostrate to Adam (pbuh). Therefore, arrogance eminates from shaytaan, this being the first instance of arrogance that we are taught by Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala.

Sahih International

And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers. 2:34

In the same way that Iblees refused to prostrate to Adam (pbuh) you refuse to prostrate to Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala who fashioned you and moulded you into what you are today. An evil and wicked place has been reserved for arrogant people who do not heed the words of our Maker.

But the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant toward them - those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally. 7:36

People generally read the above verse and just turn away from it as if it is nothing but an invented saying of a man. These words are crystal clear and should send shivers down the spines of the believers when they read it. It is a statement that is the truth and this theme runs throughout the Holy Qur’an from beginning to the end. Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala is not a liar, He is truth and take heed of the above verse and understand it and reflect on it and Fear Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala as they will surely come true on a day that is decreed from the beginning of time.

Said those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, in that which you have believed, are disbelievers." 7:76

Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala knows us more than we know ourselves, He says that He looks into the heart of each and everyone and that He is closer to us than our own jugular veins. So in that context it is easy to see that the above verse is directly for the arrogant people who thinks they know everything that there is to know. Learned people are in a state of self delusion as they think in their own minds they know everything that is in the universe due to the level of education that they have attained. This delusion clouds their mind and clouds their judgement of reality. They make themselves important in this world because they have three letters after their name.

And they will come out [for judgement] before Allah all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allah ?" They will say, "If Allah had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape." 14:21

Tasfir for the above verse says,
* تفسير Tafsir al-Jalalayn
________________________________________
{ وَبَرَزُواْ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعاً فَقَالَ ٱلضُّعَفَاءُ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوۤاْ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمْ تَبَعًا فَهَلْ أَنتُمْ مُّغْنُونَ عَنَّا مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَيْءٍ قَالُواْ لَوْ هَدَانَا ٱللَّهُ لَهَدَيْنَاكُمْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَآ أَجَزِعْنَآ أَمْ صَبَرْنَا مَا لَنَا مِن مَّحِيصٍ }
And they, that is, [all] creatures, sally forth to God (wa-barazū: this, and what follows, is expressed in the past tense because it will come to pass) all together; then the weak, the followers, say to those who were arrogant, those who were followed: ‘Indeed we were your followers (taba‘an is the plural of tābi‘). Will you then avail, defend, us against the chastisement of God in any way?’ (min ‘adhābi’Llāhi min shay’in: the first min is explicative, while the second one is partitive). They, the ones followed, say, ‘If God had guided us, we would have guided you, we would have called you to
guidance. It is the same for us whether we rage [impatiently] or patiently endure; we do not have any asylum’, [any] refuge (min mahīs, ‘any asylum’, min is extra).

Naturally ordinary people tend to listen to and respect the views of the learned people and scholars. If, for example, they say that there is no God then an ordinary man will agree with that statement because he falsely believes that the learned man is making that statement as a fact.

And those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Why were not angels sent down to us, or [why] do we [not] see our Lord?" They have certainly become arrogant within themselves and [become] insolent with great insolence. 25:21

This arrogance is partly due to the fact that learned men want proof rather than faith. The above statement signifies that for them to believe the arrogant men would require proof and to see with their own eyes before believing.

The Holy Qur’an is the Words of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala sent to mankind as a Mercy so that the believers could be saved from eternal damnation. You must not simply read the words but you must take them into your soul as they testify the truthfulness of salvation. It does not cost much nor does it cost a great sacrifice on our part as Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala has made it very easy for the believers to live a life that is pleasing to Him. All we have to do is follow what He wants us to do in this life, and when you look at it deep down, hand on heart, it is certainly such a small thing that we can do to earn salvation and spend eternity with Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala.
