Okay to pray w/o hijab?

Salaam,

So I took shahada last Friday. I'm slowly learning what I can, trying to be patient and not overwhelm myself. But still make sincere effort.

I'm working on getting prayer down and I am no where near being ready to wear hijab, yet. So, I'm wondering what to do if I'm away from home without a scarf... like, because I forgot it or something... should I still pray?

This should probably be posted in the Sister Club, but I feel the lounge gets a bit more traffic.

Thank you! =]

Congratulations on proclaiming shahada.... may Allah S.W.T reward you...

As for offering Salaah without scarf , i think it's not permissible to do so...
I am sure other members will help you on this with authentic quotes...

We all welcome you once again to Deen-ul-haq(religion of truth)....

Hope this helps......

Says Allah in the Qur'an, "O Children of Adam, take your adornment
(by wearing proper clothing) for every mosque" ( al-A'raf 31). The
meaning of "adornment" here is the covering of the 'aurah. The
meaning of "mosque" is "prayer." Therefore, it means "Cover your
'aurah for every prayer." Salamah ibn al-Aku' said to the Prophet, "O
Messenger of Allah, may I pray in a long shirt?" He said, "Yes, but
button it, even with just a thorn." (Related by al-Bukhari in his
Tareekh.)

There is no such dispute over what constitutes a woman's 'aurah. It
is stated that her entire body is 'aurah and must be covered, except
her hands and face. Says Allah in the Qur'an, "And to display of their
adornment only that which is apparent (do not expose any
adornment or beauty save the hands and face)." It has been
authentically related from Ibn 'Abbas, Ibn 'Umar and 'Aishah that the
Prophet said, "Allah does not accept the prayer of an adult woman
unless she is wearing a headcovering (khimar, hijab)." This is related
by "the five," except for an-Nasa'i, and by Ibn Khuzaimah and
al-Hakim. At-Tirmidhi grades it as hassan.

It is related from Umm Salamah that she asked the Prophet, "Can a
woman pray in a long shirt (like a night shirt) and headcovering
without a loincloth?" He said, "If the shirt is long and flowing and
covers the top of her feet." This is related by Abu Dawud. The
scholars say it is sahih in mauqoof form (as a statement of Umm
Salamah and not that of the Prophet.)

It is also related that 'Aishah was asked, "In how many garments is a
woman to pray?" She answered, "Ask 'Ali ibn Abu Talib and then
return to me and tell me what he said." 'Ali's answer was, "In a
headcover and a long flowing shirt." This was told to 'Aishah and she
said, "He has told the truth."

The clothes worn must cover the 'aurah, even if they are tight enough
to highlight those features. If the clothes are so thin that one's skin
color can be seen, they are not suitable for prayer.

Salam Alaikum Sister

WELCOME TO TTI :):):):) AND MABROOK ON TAKING YOUR SHAHADAH :):):)
What is the ruling on a small girl praying without a head cover?.

Praise be to Allaah.

If she has not yet reached puberty, then her prayer is valid, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah does not accept the prayer of a woman who menstruates unless she wears a head cover.” This indicates that if a female who does not menstruate, i.e., she has not reached puberty, prays without a head cover, there is nothing wrong with it. But it is better for her to pray with a head cover if she is seven years old or more. Those below the age of seven, whether male or female, are not required to pray, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Teach your children to pray when they are seven, and smack them if they do not pray when they are ten, and separate them in their beds.” End quote.

sister your prayer wont be accepted if you pray without wearing the hijab to cover up your hair..
however, you can use any piece of clothing suitable to cover your hair as long as its clean inshallah. and allah knows best.

im sure inshallah you will benefit a lot from this wonderfull site and community
dont be shy to ask anything..ANYTHING

:salam2: dear sister, firstly, congratulations on your choice of becoming muslim :) i, too, am a revert and just started wearing hijab this year. i think if you purchase an islamic prayer outfit on the internet, you can actually find light ones that would fit in your purse if you are out, so that you reserver that clothing clean for prayer only which includes a long head covering and a long skirt with elastic waist that can even cover your toes.

May Allah continue to guide you and all of us in His light.

Asslaamu'Alaykum,

From Bulugh-ul-Maram:

Narrated 'Aisha (radhiyAllaahu anha) (may Allaah be pleased with her):

The Prophet :saw: (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

"The Salat (prayer) of a woman, who has reached puberty, is not accepted unless she is wearing a Khimar."

[Khimar is a piece of cloth with which a woman covers her head and neck area. It means that the whole body of a woman should be covered including head hair.]

Reported by Al-Khamsa except An-Nasaa'i. And Ibn Khuzayma graded it Sahih (authentic).

[Reference: Bulugh-ul-Maram, The Book of Prayer, Chapter 3 - The Conditions of Salat (Prayer), Pg. 78]

Sister Amirah's post made this clear. I realise what the problem is but I just want to be careful what and how I post.

Is it possible that you could take a head-scarf to cover your head and neck area at the time of prayer?

May Allah bless you with firm faith. Ameen.

Walaykum Salaam.
