When the Pope said sooooo
Many Christians did not believe that Jesus was God. To do so was blasphemous. Constantine ordered a meeting to make decisions as to what Christianity was supposed to be. This was called the Council of Nicea. They set up the rules, made decisions on what was going to be Christian. Since Constantine was a pagan, it was easier to bring in pagan beliefs and mix them up a bit, so that affirming that Jesus was God would be more palatable. In his finite mind, he could not conceive of a God greater than man. So they made a man God. This group of people made all the decisions for others as what to believe and what not to believe. It is the papacy, and for thousands of years, and still today, they make the rules. Until a few years ago, it was illegal for a catholic to read the bible, the reasoning was that people couldn't understand it, and since the priests have some divinity, they were the only ones who could understand it. Truthfully, until about the last 80 years, most people could not even read, so they relied on someone who could read to tell them what it meant. protestantism, is catholicism without some of the religious rites that catholics use and without 7 books of the bible. So, Protestantism, also teaches that Jesus is God. Many christian churches are starting to fall away from this thinking, especially in the latter few years because more people are learned and can read for themselves and study for themselves. While Islam has always taught to learn, and have knowledge, Christianity deferred people from it saying knowledge was the work of the devil....it kept all in bondage to the churches and they couldn't read for themselves so trusted the ministers, priests, and pastors to tell them what it meant. That is why so many cults evolved in the last 200 years.
