Actually natural disasters that befall on a people are due to it's inhabitant's sins and misgivings. It is like a warning & reminder from Allah subhaanaho waa taala to the people to return to deen of Islam.
All the muslims to whom this news has reached should be remorseful and make a lot of tawbah to Allah azz zawajal as this is certainly wrath that we have earned due to our misgivings and heavy sins. Even other creations of Allah azz zawajal such as animals & trees suffer due to the corruption of mankind on this earth.
May Allah azz zawajal guide us to that which pleases Him and keep us far apart from that which makes us incurs His wrath & displeasure. Ameen
Edit : Now that I think of it, I guess you were suggesting that this will unite the muslims towards helping our fellow brethren in Pakistan and increase the love between our hearts, which you view as a blessing. I get it.

Wa'alaykum asalaam dear sister. It's Pakistan itself which has rather created a wasteland of these beautiful places, which have been totally negelcted.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if the government decided to help the people of Pakhtunkhwa.
But we should leave politics aside for now, these people need urgent aid and this is what we should fixate on.

Turkish brother are doing a great job here. in three mosques they have collected in two weeks more than 10,000 euros for Pakistani flood effect es.the imam of one mosque today was announcing again and again for the help for Pakistani brothers and sisters. really i was shocked to see such a level of caring for Pakistanis. also many Arabic guys handed over me a lot of money for flood victims. May Allah SWT bless them All. Ameen.
