Assalamualikum.
Growing up in a Western country, (UK) it was only during adulthood that i learnt about the debt the modern world owes to Islamic civilization in Europe. This period is often overlooked by today's scholars, schools and the media and this perhaps reflects the West's prejudicial view of Islam.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe fell into the Dark Ages where people's advancement and knowledge was stifled. The only shining light was Al Andalus or Moorish Spain where people of all faiths and ethnicities flourished along side one another in peace.
