Pilgrims’ housing needs review: Khaled

Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal stressed yesterday the need for identifying the positive and negative aspects of the present system of providing accommodation to Haj pilgrims.

Prince Khaled, who is also chairman of the Central Haj Committee, was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on Haj in Jeddah.

Minister of Haj Fouad Al-Farsy was a keynote speaker at the workshop, entitled “Haj Accommodation: Objectives and Reality.”

“The first workshop on Haj held last year produced excellent results with the cooperation of all related departments and workers. It was agreed at that workshop to strive guaranteeing comfort and safety for Haj pilgrims beginning from their entry to the holy land until their final departure after the completion of their religious rites,” Prince Khaled said.

Prince Khaled also urged the participants in the present workshop to make maximum efforts to come up with more ideas for better service to the guests of God.

Addressing the workshop, Al-Farsy said the workshop aimed at improving the quality of Haj services offered by every department related to Haj.

“The pilgrims, who will be staying in the Kingdom an average of two to three weeks, should get comfortable accommodation so that they can complete all the rites with peace of mind,” Al-Farsy added.

Those who read papers in the first session of the workshop yesterday included Arif Qadi, undersecretary at the Makkah Mayor’s office, Brig. Jamil Arabaeen of the General Directorate of Civil Defense, and Ihasn Saleh Al-Moetaz of the Institute of Haj Research.

At the second session, the papers were presented by Salah Saqr of the Makkah Governor’s Office and Muhammad Al-Nuaman of the Madinah governorate. Rashad Hussein and Adil Balkhair also presented papers.

All the papers were related to problems concerning Haj accommodation and suggestions to overcome them.
