As'salamu alaikum,
I was searching some information online about proof of Islam. I came upon one website. It said there is proof in the Quran that Jesus (pbuh) did die on the cross. I read one part and it is Surah 19:33 (So peace is on me the day I was born, the day that I die, and the day that I shall be raised up to life again.) Please brothers and sisters explain what this means. Thank you all so much. :wasalam: :tti_sister:

asalamualaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

This is simple to explain so don't get too worried.

First of all we as muslims beleive that the Prophet Jesus is not dead but was raised to the heavens is still alive today, however we also beleive that he will return oneday where he will fight the Dajjal the antichrist and be victorious, after which he will die.

Here is the explaination to the verse 19:33 from a tafsir (explanation of the quran) website.

[وَالسَّلَـمُ عَلَىَّ يَوْمَ وُلِدْتُّ وَيَوْمَ أَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ أُبْعَثُ حَيّاً ]

(And Salam (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!) This is his affirmation that `he is a worshipper of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and that he is a creature created by Allah. He (`Isa) will live, die and be resurrected, just like the other creatures that Allah has created. However, he will have peace in these situations, which are the most difficult situations for Allah's creatures.' May Allah's peace and blessings be upon him.

hope that helps.

:salam2: Sister Julie,

(19:33) Peace be upon me on the day I was born and peace shall be on me on the day I die and on the day I am raised to life."
The infant Jesus (PBUH) is talking about the day he was born, and the day he will finally die and the day he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgement. He will be blessed on all of these days and all prophets were and will be blessed on these days. This becomes more clear when you read all the verses before ane after this verse.

Also please note in Surah 4 (An-Nisa) Allah says:

(4:157) and their saying: 'We slew the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary', the Messenger of Allah,*! whereas*! in fact they had neither slain him nor crucified him but the matter was made dubious to them - and those who differed about it too were in a state of doubt! They have no definite knowledge of it, but merely follow conjecture;*! and they surely slew him not,

(4:158) but Allah raised him to Himself.*! Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

(4:159) There are none among the People of the Book but will believe in him before his death,*! and he will be a witness against them on the Day of Resurrection.*!
Here Allah is saying that before Jesus (PBUH) finally dies (after killing the Dajjal and establishing Islam all over the world), there will be no Jew or Christian who wouldn't believe on Jesus a prophet of Allah (SWT).

alsalam 3alikom,
Only allah is alive and never dies. evrey alive else will die: animals birds mankind , jeans, angles and prophets. After that every dead shall be raised up to life again in the day of judgment

In this sourat (Mariam) Jesus (pbuh) said that he will die but he didnt say that he will die in the cross.
According to many authentic hadiths muslims bleave that Allah protected Jesus (pbuh) from jews and raised him to the heavens and before the last days he will come back and he will break the cross. he will kill the antichrist and live with muslims and he will tell them about there places in the paradise. many christains at those days will follow him and embrace islam, and after some years he will die.
so, yes Jesus (pbuh) will die and be raised up to life again

:salam2: Sister Julie,

Abu Huraira reports that Allah's Apostle (PBUH) affirmed:
"No Prophet shall come during the period between me and Jesus (PBUH). And Jesus shall descend. Recognize him when you see him; he is a man of medium height and of a rudy, fair complexion. He will be dressed in two pieces of light yellow garments. The hair of his head will appear as if water is trickling out of them, though his hair would not be wet. He will fight for the cause of Islam. He will break the Cross (Christianity) into pieces. He will slay the swine. He will abolish the Jizya (tax) on non-believers. In his time God will put an end to all other faiths except the religion of Islam . And Christ will kill Dajjal (antichrist). He will live on this earth for a period of forty years and at the end of this period he will pass away. The Muslims will offer the funeral prayers of Christ (PBUH)."
(Abu Dawud, Kitab-ul-Malahim, Bab: Khuruj-ul-Dajjal; Musnad Ahmad, Marwiyat Abu Huraira)

Here are several Hadiths I am cutting and pasting:

Sahih Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 425:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will shortly descend amongst you people (Muslims) as a just ruler and will break the Cross and kill the pig and abolish the Jizya (a tax taken from the non-Muslims, who are in the protection, of the Muslim government). Then there will be abundance of money and no-body will accept charitable gifts.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 3, Book 43, Number 656:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it (as charitable gifts).

Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55, Number 651:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "I am the nearest of all the people to the son of Mary, and all the prophets are paternal brothers, and there has been no prophet between me and him (i.e. Jesus)."

Volume 4, Book 55, Number 652:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "Both in this world and in the Hereafter, I am the nearest of all the people to Jesus, the son of Mary. The prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one."

Volume 4, Book 55, Number 657:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, surely (Jesus,) the son of Mary will soon descend amongst you and will judge mankind justly (as a Just Ruler); he will break the Cross and kill the pigs and there will be no Jizya (i.e. taxation taken from non Muslims). Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it, and a single prostration to Allah (in prayer) will be better than the whole world and whatever is in it." Abu Huraira added "If you wish, you can recite (this verse of the Holy Book): -- 'And there is none Of the people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians) But must believe in him (i.e. Jesus as an Apostle of Allah and a human being) Before his death. And on the Day of Judgment He will be a witness Against them." (4.159) (See Fateh Al Bari, Page 302 Vol. 7)

Volume 4, Book 55, Number 658:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said "How will you be when the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you and he will judge people by the Law of the Quran and not by the law of Gospel (Fateh-ul Bari page 304 and 305 Vol 7)

Sahih Muslim Book 030, Number 5834:

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (pbuh) as saying: I am most akin to the son of Mary among the whole of mankind and the Prophets are of different mothers, but of one religion, and no Prophet was raised between me and him (Jesus Christ).

Book 030, Number 5835:

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (pbuh) as saying: I am most akin to Jesus Christ among the whole of mankind, and all the Prophets are of different mothers but belong to one religion and no Prophet was raised between me and Jesus.

Book 030, Number 5836:

Abu Huraira reported many ahadith from Allah's Messenger (pbuh) and one is that Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said: I am most close to Jesus, son of Mary, among the whole of mankind in this worldly life and the next life. They said: Allah's Messenger how is it? Thereupon he said: Prophets are brothers in faith, having different mothers. Their religion is, however, one and there is no Apostle between us (between I and Jesus Christ).

Sunan Abu Dawud Book 37, Number 4310:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (pbuh) said: There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus (pbuh). He will descend (to the earth). When you see him, recognize him: a man of medium height, reddish fair, wearing two light yellow garments, looking as if drops were falling down from his head though it will not be wet. He will fight the people for the cause of Islam. He will break the cross, kill swine, and abolish jizya. Allah will perish all religions except Islam. He will destroy the Antichrist and will live on the earth for forty years and then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him.

You may ask why so many similar Hadiths? My answer would be that those who collected hadith collected it from many people, and if there is a difference of a single word they would assign it a new number and record it. Also prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said these things on different occasions and so he also could have used different words on different occasions.
