Prayer for decision making?

Can anyone give me a good prayer to say while pondering an important decision that I can't decide upon? I have to know by January 15 if I want to stay another school year at my job. The kids are fine, the courses are fine, but I don't know if I can work another year under the administrator (who is such a power-hungry female that I can't stand her professionally or personally).

If I KNEW she wasn't returning for another school year, it would be an easy decision - I would go back. But since I know it is like a 90% chance that she WILL be returning, I don't know if I want to go through another year being berated by her, even though the parents, students, and other teachers all respect me and say I am doing an excellent job, alhumdillulah!

I know I could get another job easily, but sometimes, “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t” and I don’t know if I want to change. So, I have about 2 weeks to ponder this decision and let the owner of the school know my decision.

I DO know that the pay I am making at my current job is quite a bit more than what I would get at another school, but sometimes, money isn’t everything.

So, if anyone can post a prayer to help make a decision, I would appreciate it (and if this type of prayer should be done in Arabic, please make sure to write the Arabic in English letters, as I can’t read Arabic – as well as the English translation, so I know exactly what I am praying.
Thanks in advance,
Lana

Sister, I know what you mean by having bad bosses. They really get to my head!

I strongly suggest that you first find and secure another job before you're leaving this one. I wish I had listened to my own advice. lol I went through 6 jobs within last 2 years.

This way you won't have to deal with extra hassle, and this is probably the best way to go about changing job.
I'm not sure how much this power hungry lady annoys you, for some strange reason I thought of "Corella" from "101 dalmanations" when mentioned this lady lol.

:wasalam:

I've never prayed Isthikara [well not properly] , perhaps someone else who has prayed can give some advice.

p.s. If I liked the job, and it offered me good pay an good atmosphere (beside the boss) I would personally stick it out until I find something equally good.

Thanks for your responses. Not speaking Arabic, I had seen the word Istikhara before, but since most people seem to mention it here with regard to marriage, I thought that meant a special prayer for marriage.

Even if I decide to change jobs, I still have to stick out the rest of the school year (until mid June), so it is not whether I can stand my boss for another year, it would be another SCHOOL year, which would mean about 1 1/2 calendar years.

My position (computer teacher) is in great demand here in Kuwait, so I have no fear that I could get another job (masha'Allah, my references are impeccable). So, I will be pondering over the highest paid job with the crappiest boss I have ever worked under, or choosing a lower paid job with an unknown boss - but would have to be extremely horrific to be worse that what I have....

*sigh* If she would just leave, I would stay in a heart-beat. Honestly, as a woman, I can't stand having women bosses - the most horrible bosses I have had ever have been women; it is like they are trying to PROVE something, so they have to be meaner, stricter, more inflexible, etc., than men who have been used to being the boss for a long time - does this make sense? It does in my head, but sometimes trying to write it out doesn't make sense.

Thanks again for the help.

Sister, I suggest that you seclude yourself in Tahajudd at night (from midnight to later on), with the intention of pleasing Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta Alla, and when you make dua (when you finish the Nafl, I suggest you do so in Sajdah, because Sajdah is one of the times that a beleiver feels closer to thier Lord), then ask Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta Alla to help you, to make the right decision for you, what HE feels is best, and to let that happen (and work out), because if you do this and just decide to quit or not, it will only happen by the WILL of Allah Ta Alla, (not because he changed what he wanted, but because he already made these steps to happen because he planned them out before he created you).

Salaam sister Lana,

I've had jobs that paid wonderfully but the co-workers made the enviroment intolerable. I've also worked for less money but with good people and it was worth every penny lost. Nothing can convince me to work in a miserable enviroment again after seeing both sides of the fence, nothing. If I were you, I'd find another place to work with people who are less power hungry and mroe about enjoying what they do in their life. Good luck sister, and insh'Allah a new door will be opened for you. :)

Ok, I prayed the istakhara and the next day, I found out that the lady boss that has been driving me crazy at work is having to cover a different position for at least the next quarter of the school year. So, I thought, Great! there is my answer - I should stay at my current job, because now she is not going to be over me, at least for a while (and, like everything, I can tolerate a little bit of anyone). So I was actually a bit relieved and content.

Then, the next day, I got "head-hunted" by another school who heard about, masha'Allah, what a great teacher I am from one of the teachers there that I know, and they asked for my resume and want to interview me.

So, now I have 2 jobs that I would both be satisfied with and neither is really at a great advantage to another. Is it possible the answer could be that either choice would be acceptable?

More confused than ever.....any advice?

Mashallah sister...alhamduliallah...

I think you should ask detailed questions about the other job..its benefits..environment..workers..etc.

Then pray Istikhara again...if you are going to submit your resume to them..the day that you submit it..pray Istikhara..and take the resume to them...and pray Istikhara again once it is submitted...if there is khair in it for you then everything regarding it will proceed smoothly..if not..then something will happen to stop it..or you might get an uncomfortable feeling about it..and dislike it..and thus not accept their offer

I think this is the best thing you can do now :)

And remember..you can pray Istikhara as many times as you want..until you settle on *one final* decision

May Allah Grant you all that is khair for you and put in your path abundant success..Ameen

Alhumdilullah! I guess I could say my prayer was answered! The boss that was making my job unbearable chose to QUIT today! I was not the only person with a huge smile on my face for the day!

Now I know I will stay at my current job for next year! Allah akbar!

That is great to hear! Masha'Allah.....! I remember you were stressing about what to do.
So I take it not many people liked her?
Well, now you can stress about dealing with the boys in your class. Keep them from cheating on exams and throwing toilet paper on the roof :D

When the "day" started, you were running everywhere not knowing any decision to make. Then you prayed Istikhara and finally at the end of the "day", you are able to make a decision on your own. This is how ALLAH (swt) helps His slaves. Allahu Akbar!

Wish you all the best sister.

Let's just say - she won't be missed. Even the students were relieved (really, she should have been working in an elementary school or preschool - she had no real clue how to deal with teenagers!)

And about the boys, don't forget the reminders to pull their pants up so I don't need to see their boxer shorts or butts! LOL!

Alhumdilullah, I realize there are bigger things going on in the world, but I am really grateful that Allah has chosen to bless me by making this easier for me!

Thanks for your support!
