Promising to Allah ? What if you break it ????

I wonder an issue regarding promising to Allah to do something or not to do something. Like, lets say, you are lazy and you dont do much voluntary, nafeel actions. So you feel like, if you promise to Allah and say ''Oo Allah, i promise will read this much Quran for your sake everyday'' (this is just an example, i never said it in my life : ) or maybe in order to stay away from a sin which you have been doing, ''Oo Allah, i promise i will never make this sin again please forgive my previous sins'' etc.

Do you know what i mean ?

So question is, is it something good to make promises like that, so that you would feel stronger to do good deeds or to stay away from harams ?

Or as i remember i read something like, we shouldnt give such promises and there is possibility we might break them somehow because of various reasons, especially by following sheitan just for a moment then our promise would be broken. Then it would be bad

My dear an beloved brother :) what i suggest you is to renew your promise by adding INCH'ALLAH so you won't have to make up for the broken promise but the value of sin will be the same( and Allah knows best) and then the easiest way is to fast for three days..so fast for three days..return to Allah and renwe the formula of promise :)

And make Dua to Allah(subhana wa taAla) that He may guide you and forgive you and may He also guide, protect and forgive with His infinite Rahma all the Believers..male and female :)
