fasting is no big deal nowadays. I mean unless you are living in the desert. basically you take an early breakfast and delay the afternoon lunch to the evenings. as for water, you must stay hydrated for after breaking the fast in at sun set till dawn and that will keep you going. The first week is tough but after that the days just fly by so dont forget to do extra worship.

Assalamu'alaikum!

Masha'allah!
I remember the first time i started to fast, that was when i was a young child,
but that doesn't mean to compare with him since he is older
because he is a new muslim!

Here in TTI ,a new brother had share his experience to prepare him for this coming Ramadhan.
1:He started fasting
like for 10 hrs then he break his fast because as he explained he feel hungry,
and then the next day he try to fast again and slowly from there he picking up.
Well, this is a very good example!

For me,
When i was very young i started to fast like 1/2 day for instance i will fast until 12pm or so then break my fast when i feel hungry then soon after that everything go steady.Alhamdulillah!

What i usually do to maintained it:
1:Sleep:SMILY153:
2:Watch T.V (decent one)
4:Listen to qur'an recitation.
3)Read holy qur'an/ books.
4)Think what are the goodies /buy for Iftar break fasting later.
5)Think what the good and delicious drink i will have/make later
6)Think of beautiful day and event on Eid Mubarak.
e.t.c e.t.c...
Think...what to do... but all the innocent thinking as when one fast
no bad thinking should include in your heart and mind.
And.... until you know it,hey! it iftar(break fasting)already???
:ma:

That was what i did when i was young:muslim_child:
still doing that sort till now.
We have to kill the time!!!

Now Usually in Ramadhan
If i have the time i will read the whole holy qur'an~Alhamdulillah!
recently i am quite busy but to only have time to listen to the holy qur'an recitation~Alhamdulillah!

So by experience i must agree that it isn't fair to say that it easy to do now that you are older but remember
he just started to experience how not to eat !

My advice and suggestion
that he still got time now that it isn't Ramadhan yet,
and that to fast half day or little bit more and slowly pick up from there insya'allah eventually he will fast for the whole day.

And if he still has a problem with that do please consult
the Islamic council
for futher advice because
Fasting is Ibadah and if one can't fast and has some difficulty
there is another way.
Reason:
He is special because he is a new muslim,
some help should be apply here.

Everybody Must Fast until there a special reason like
1)Too sick and must take medication hourly.
2)Musafir(so poor traveller) travel far not less then 83 km.

:bismillah:
The month of Ramadhan [is that]
in which was revealed the Holy Qur'an,
a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.
So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him/her fast it;
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days.
Allah (swt) intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship
and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah (swt )
for that [to] which Allah(swt) has guided you;
and perhaps you will be grateful.
Holy qur'an:Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185

3)Can't Fast/Fail to fast.

:bismillah:
[Fasting for] a limited number of days.
So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them]
- then an equal number of days [are to be made up].
And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] -
a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day he/her miss in Ramadhan(30 days].
And whoever volunteers excess -
it is better for him.
But to fast is best for you,
if you only knew.
~Holy qur'an~Surah Al-Baqarah 2:184

I believe this will help .
Insya'allah!

Another tips,
1:Try not to miss Sahur(eating before fast)to fast the next day.
2:Eat solid food.
4: Drink well.
5:Tell yourself it's no big deal to fast, if the poor can stand hunger for too long then why
not us which will miss some of our comfort for when until the sun began to set at maghrib.
Masha'allah!

P.S:And don't forget to watch solat Taraweeh live from Makkah~Masha'allah!

~May Allah swt reward you for your good effort trying to help him~Amin!
And
~May Allah swt help,protect and guide us~Amin!

All The Best!

Thank you for reading,
Take care!
~Wassalam :)

In terms of food I would say keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water during suhoor and iftar and after iftar. Eat healthy good foods that will not make you feel heavy so you can pray taraweh and have energy towards the day.

In terms of ibadah constant dhikr and quran reading or listening will keep your soul energized inshAllah. The benefits of dhikr do not only bring you hassanat but also keep your mouth moist with the sweet words of the Quran and give you energy to keep going strong. Once your soul is strong, fortified by your ibadah your body is able to cope better with the fasting.

May Allah accept all our fasts and ibadah this Ramadhan :tti_sister:
