Question about Forgiveness & Punishment

Salam

I was talking with the boy I tutor today (he is a born Muslim in a Muslim family), and we came up with a question that neither of us could answer.

If a person wrongs another person (let's say, petty theft or spreading a rumor), and they admit it and apologize, and the victim forgives them, will God still punish the person for it? What about if it is a major crime (murder) and you admit it, serve your punishment on Earth with the forgiveness of the victim's family?

I told the boy I would ask here and let him know the answer the next time I tutor him.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Allah SWT has forgiven a person who has commited 100 murders. Just because he did true repentance. He never had a chance to seek forgiveness from the victims(family).
I guess it is basically in ones intention...AllahuAalam!

The hadith is there in Sahihayn (Jamee As Sahee of Bukhari and also in Muslim).

Only Shirk is the sin which will never be forgiven by Allah.

Assalamu alaikum sister!

The following is my understanding and not a fatwa.

There are two types of rights a person could violate as far as I know.
1- Huquq-u-llah (rights of Allah)
2- Huquq-ul-ebaad (rights of people)

Violation of the first can be forgiven if Allah wills, but the second has to be forgiven by the victim.
If the victim does not recieve anything in compensation in this world or is dead, he may take the convict's good deeds on the day of judgement.

In either case, a sincere repentance followed by good deeds is recommended.
The final decision, however, rests with Allah, the owner of the day of judgement.

The result of our deeds will be announced/known only after Allah almighty himself judges on the day of judgement and HE is the best in justice.

Wassalam
