:salam2:

I was wondering If whispering is only special to shaytan? Can Angels whisper into man ? And Did Allah SWT created shaytan especially to whisper to man or Did Allah Created him for different reasons we do not know ?

THank You :)

As-salaamu'Alaykum wa'Rahmatullaah,

Insha'Allaah the portions below will answer your question:

Angels:

4 – Stirring up good motives in human hearts

Allah has appointed for each person a qareen (constant companion) from among the angels, and another from among the jinn. In Saheeh Muslim it is narrated that Ibn Mas’ood said:

“The Messenger of Allah :saw: said:

“There is no one among you but there has been appointed for him one qareen from among the jinn and another from among the angels.”

They said,

“For you too, O Messenger of Allah?”

He said,

“For me too, but Allah has helped me against him (the jinn companion) and he has become Muslim, so he does not tell me to do anything but good.”

(Muslim, 4/2168, hadith no. 2814)

This angelic companion is probably different from the angels who are commanded to record a person’s deeds; Allah has appointed him to guide the person.

A person’s qareen from among the angels and his qareen from among the jinn have an influence upon him. The latter tells him and encourages him to do evil, and the former urges and encourages him to do good. It is narrated from Ibn Mas’ood (radhiyAllaahu anh) that the Messenger of Allah :saw: said:

“The devil has a hold over the son of Adam, and the angel has a hold over him. The hold of the devil tempts man to do evil and deny the truth. The hold of the angel encourages man to do good and believe in the truth. Whoever experiences anything of this sort, let him know that it is from Allah, and let him praise Allah. Whoever experiences anything of the other, let him seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytaan, then recite:

Shaitân (Satan) threatens You with poverty and orders You to commit Fahshâ (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins etc.); whereas Allâh promises You Forgiveness from himself and Bounty, and Allâh is All-Sufficient for his creatures' needs, All-Knower.

(Qur’aan, 2: 268)

Ibn Katheer said, after quoting this hadith:

“This is how it is narrated by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasaa’i in the books of Tafseer in their Sunans, from Hanaad ibn al-Sirri. It is also narrated by Ibn Hibbaan in his Saheeh, from Abu Ya’laa al-Mosuli, also from Hanaad. At-Tirmidhi said: (it is) hasan ghareeb, and it is the hadith of Abu’l-Ahwas, i.e., Salaam ibn Saleem...”

Look at the following hadith to see how the jinn-companion and the angel-companion compete with each other to direct a person. Al-Haafiz Abu Moosa narrated from Abu az-Zubayr that Jaabir said:

“The Messenger of Allah :saw: said:

‘When a person goes to bed, an angel and a devil hasten towards him. The angel says,

‘End you day with good,”

- and the devil says,

“End your day with evil.”

If he remembers Allah until (sleep) overtakes him, the angel expels the devil and spends the night watching over him.

When he wakes up, an angel and a devil hasten towards him. The angel says,

“Start (your day) with good,’

- and the devil says,

‘Start (your day) with evil.’

If he says,

‘Praise be to Allah who has brought my soul back to life after causing it to

die, and has not caused me to die during my sleep. Praise be to Allah Who has detained the souls whom He decreed should die, and has sent back the others until an appointed time. Praise be to Allah Who grasps the heaven and the earth lest they move away from their places, and if they were to move away from their places, there is not one that could grasp them after Him (cf. 35:41), and Praise be to Allah Who holds up the heavens so that they cannot fall on the earth except by His leave,’

- then the angel expels the devil and spends the day watching over him.”

(The editor of Al-Waabil as-Sayyib said, commenting on this hadith:

Something similar is narrated by Ibn Hibbaan, no. 2362, Mawaarid, and Al-Haakim, 1/548. Al-Haakim classed it as saheeh and Adh-Dhahabi agreed with him. Its men are thiqaat. It is also mentioned by Al-Haythami in Majma’ az-Zawaa’id, 10/120, He said: it is narrated by Abu Ya’laa, and its men are the men of saheeh, apart from Ibraaheem ash-Shaami, who is thiqah. We say the correct name is Ibraaheem ibn al-Hajjaaj al-Saami, not
Ash-Shaami.)

These ahaadeeth encourage us to do a lot of good deeds in order to reform ourselves, so that the angels come near to us. There is a great deal of good in having the angels near to us. We have mentioned above the hadith Ibn ‘Abbaas, which describes the effect of the Messenger’s meeting with Jibreel during the month of Ramadaan, to study the Qur’aan, and how the Messenger :saw: at that time was “more generous in doing good than the wind when it blows.”

(Bukhaari, 1/30, hadith no. 6)

For the second part of your question. The thread 'World of the Jinn and Devils' will cover the wisdom behind the creation of the Shaytaan which is quite comprehensive. I have not reached this point in the thread although I will post a few reasons here. If you can wait it out, then it will be in that thread in full, in time, Insha'Allaah.

The Wisdom behind the Creation of the Shaytaan

The Shaytaan is the source of evil and sin, he leads people to doom in this world and in the Hereafter. He raises his banner at every time and in every place, and calls people to kufr and disobedience of the Most Merciful. Is there any wisdom behind his creation? What is this wisdom?

The question is answered by Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) who said (Shifaa’ al-Ghaleel, p. 322):

“In the creation of Iblees and his cohorts there is wisdom the details of which cannot be encompassed by anyone except Allah.”

Among those reasons are the following:

1 – The perfection of total enslavement to Allah which results from striving against the Shaytaan and his followers:

His Prophets and close friends (awliyaa’) are able to perfect their level of total enslavement to Allah (‘uboodiyyah) by striving against the enemy of Allah and his supporters, opposing him and spiting him for the sake of Allah, annoying him and his friends, seeking refuge in Allah from him, turning to Allah for protection against his evil and his plots. Innumerable benefits both in this world and in the Hereafter result from that, which could not have come about were it not for his existence.

2 – Making people afraid of sin

Another effect is that the angels and the believers are afraid of falling into sin after what they have seen of the state of Iblees, how he fell from being on a level with the angels to the satanic level; having seen this, their fear is stronger and more complete. Undoubtedly, when the angels saw that, they became more humble slaves of Allah and submitted to Him more, and feared Him more, just as happens with the slaves of a king when they see that one of their mates has been subjected to the utmost humiliation; when they see that, there is no doubt than their fear and caution grow more intense.

3 – Allah has made him a lesson for those who are willing to learn

Allah has made him a lesson for those who go against His commands and are too proud to obey Him, and who persist in their sins. Similarly, Allah made the father of mankind a lesson for those who do that which He has forbidden or who disobeys His commands. Then he (i.e., Adam), repented and regretted his sin, and turned back to his Lord. So the fathers of both mankind and the jinn were tested with sin. So Allah made one father a lesson to the one who persists in sin, and the other father a lesson to the one who repents and turns back to his Lord. How much a wisdom and great signs there are in this.

4 – He has made him a trial and a test for His slaves

He is the means by which Allah tests His creation, to distinguish the evil among them from the good. Allah created humankind from the earth, in which there is both ease and hardship, good and bad. So they will inevitably manifest that which is in the substance of which they are made.

According to a hadith, Abu Moosa said,

“I heard the Messenger of Allah :saw: say:

‘Allah created Adam from a handful which He gathered from throughout the earth, so the children of Adam vary as the earth does, and among them are red, white and black, easy-going and difficult, good and evil.”

This was narrated by Ahmad, Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood.

(Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh, 1/36, no. 100)

Whatever existed in the original material is still present in that which was created from it. Divine wisdom dictates that that should appear and be made manifest. So there has to be a cause of that being made manifest. Iblees is the means by which the good are distinguished from the evil, just as the Prophets and Messengers are also a means.

Allah says:

Allah will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good.

(Qur’aan, 3/179)

So Allah sent His Messenger to those who are accountable, among whom are both good and wicked, so that the good may be joined to the good and the wicked to the wicked.

Divine wisdom dictated that they should be mixed in the arena of testing (i.e., this world), but when they pass into the eternal abode they will be separated and each will be given its own abode. Such is Allahs great wisdom and great power.
