I would like to know what type of organization Al-kida is and are they really involved in terrorist activities like the media portrays them?

Salaam and welcome to the forum.
Al-Kida(Al-Qaeda) is an renagade Orginization which is in Opposition to Islam and those who Understood it from the first 3 Generation of the Muslims.
My First advise for you is that you should learn about the Fundamentaals of Islam which is Tawheed, Oneness of Allah before you get into Political Issues which this group is upon.

People who are involved in any sort of extremism or terrorism are very small minority.
Al Qaeda certainly does some evil things, but often the media is quick to associate them with anything bad that happens, even when it could be different people.
Or the media says that something is "Islamic Extremism", but Islam has no place for such actions.
