Asslam u Alaikum,

As per my understanding Kafr means someone "Who refuse/deny". In Islam someone who listens the mesage of Islam and then deny , then he or she will be considered Kaafir. All others who have not heared the message of Islam are non muslims NOT kaafir.

JaakAllah,

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Mercifulniaje Robert hope you are well .kafir is a term that is used for those who dont believe in ALLAH (AZA WA JALLAH) (GOD) but you cannot use it to those who believe in GOD.Qiblah is the direction we face when praying (MECCA)

.. "Acquire knowledge, it enables its professor to distinguish right from wrong; it lights the way to heaven. It is our friend in the desert, our company in solitude and companion when friendless. It guides us to happiness, it sustains us in misery, it is an ornament amongst friends and an armour against enemies." (widely attributed to the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)

The meaning of the word kufer(كفر) in arabic is to cover , kafer is the one who covers the truth ...since the truth is within each of us : the Fitra which Allah swt created us with but the kafer is the one who covers the truth by his ignorance and paying no attention to the signs of Allah swt all around.:astag:

first, before i go into what i think about the word kafir; i would like to say that we muslims need to be very careful in who we name as a kafir.

a kafir is one who after been presented to the light and truth of islam, continues to reject islam. if you don't know anything about islam, that really isn't rejecting islam because you didn't know enough about islam to disbelieve. however, if you have been properly presented to islam and choose to disbelieve, slander islam, or the Prophet :saw: then indeed they would fit into the category of kafir.

we have to view every human being as a possible shahadah. we have to be better in the practice of dawah and our own personal actions need to be according to the quran and sunnah, so that we be a good example to the non muslim world. and if ALLAH SWT wills, they will say :shahadah:
