Assalaamu alaikum brothers and sisters, I hope this reaches you in the best of health/imaan :)

so ima get to the point......can a Sister put on a nail polish when she isnt praying? I know that its haraam for us to do so when we're praying, but when we're not, does the same ruling apply??? once it is haraam, isnt completely haraam??

please no opinions, I want proof from Qur'an and Sunnah!

may Allaah reward you for taking the time to read......=)

May Allaah increase you in beneficial knowledge and much good.

Shaykh ibn `Uthaymeen rahimahullaah said:

It is not permissible to use this if a woman is praying, because it prevents the water from reaching the nails when doing wudoo’ or ghusl, and it is not permissible to use anything that will prevent water from reaching the skin or nails when doing wudoo’ or ghusl. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows…”

[al-Maa’idah 5:6]

So if a woman is wearing nail-polish which prevents water from reaching her nails, then she is not really washing her hands, which means that she has omitted one of the obligatory parts of wudoo’ and ghusl. But if she is not praying, there is nothing wrong with her using it, unless this action is one of the unique characteristics of kaafir woman, in which case it is not permissible because it involves imitating them.

Fataawa al-Mar’ah al-Muslimah, 1/474

You probably know, but just saying for the benefit of others... that if a sister does wear make-up etc, then she should make sure that her beauty is not revealed to any stranger (i.e Non-Mahram men) as this would come under Tabarruj.

Wassalaamu `alaykum

Assalaamu alaikum,

brother thariq, may Allaah reward you for your help ! I also ask Allaah to accept your dua, it means a lot to me for I only wish to gain knowledge ragarding this beautiful deen of ours. So yea, your duea means so much! may Allaah accept it! ameen
Also the mak-up bit is important for all of us to take heed....*thanks for including that as well*

Sis Faaraa, the fatwaa you posted does not regard my question. This person is asking of some kind of remedy that sticks to the nails *like* nail polish. As I understand the question is not for NAIL POLISH itself but something LIKE it that is used for medical purposes. In wish case the shaikh replied that we can wipe over.
The nail polish I meant was the kind you put on your nails....they come in different colors and what not.
However, I really do appreciate you kindness in doing research and sharing that with me. jazaka'Allaah khair ukhti,
