reading the Bible...?

Asalaamu alaikum -

I was reading a post by a friend about how the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salaam once admonished one of the Sahaba for reading the Bible.

Does anyone know this hadith, and can explain why the Prophet s.a.w. would prohibit one of his (s.a.w.) Companions from reading it?

I think this was Omar RA who Prophet Mohammad :saw: admonished for reading Bible.
But the reason He :saw: did that was because Omar was reading the Bible to gain knowledge from it. That is why He said angrily that why you are reading this book while now you have something much better than this book, and specially when this book was no longer pure and contained many fabrications and errors, whether it was Torah or Injeel. He :saw: wanted Muslims to concentrate on Quran first. Remember at that time the Quran was not in a written form i.e. like a book as we have today, and it was still being revealed. But later on He gave permission to read religious scriptures of other religions because the Islamic knowledge and faith has already deeply ingrained in the hearts of Muslims. Now there was little chance of them going astray.
