Truth Be Told

Hello everyone.

I'm posting this in this forum so that I can get some informed perspectives for a writing project I decided to sort of tie in with what will probably be one of my declared majors: Comparative religion.

My research premise deals with the culture wars over whether or not religions should be abolished from human society. There is much talk of predominantly atheist nations who have "better" lifestyles (i.e., less crime) than those supposedly "theist" countries (like the United States, which is only predominantly Christian; it is intended to be secular). So here come a list of some questions I could use some answers too:

1) Statistics apparently state that mainstream Muslims do not endorse or condone the views of Al-Qaeda and often say they are in violation of genuine jihadic principles. What are some specifics?

2) Why do you think religious fundamentalism exists? Why does it apply to most every religion?

3) What aspects of Islam do not apply to contemporary society? What problems or solutions are there to Middle Eastern Muslim countries?

Thanks for your time. I don't mean to be invasive or intrude on anyone's religious sensitivities by asking these questions. This is just for research purposes. Anything will do.
