Salam my question is is it haram or wrong or bad to judge a person based on how they look as far as physical beauty ? I mean people can not help what their physical beauty is because they were born with looks and the Creator gives you you're good looks also I believe people should be judged by their actions not their physical beauty anyone agree ? Is superiority based on physical beauty or piety and good action ?

Prophet Muhammad's Last Sermon
Date delivered: 632 A.C., 9th day of Dhul al Hijjah, 10 A.H. in the 'Uranah valley of Mount Arafat.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab
has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an
Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any
superiority over white except by piety and good action.

He looks to your heart and to your deeds."

Allah is the one who gives people their physical appearance , we should not judge people according to what they look or dress.

My dear brother, I think you've answered your own question, there:
Prophet Muhammad's Last Sermon
Date delivered: 632 A.C., 9th day of Dhul al Hijjah, 10 A.H. in the 'Uranah valley of Mount Arafat.

Not to sound cliched, but don't judge a book by its cover.

On a second note, don't think of people as being superior to one another. That is the path to arrogance and an atom of arrogance will deny you entry through the gates of Jannah. Allah (SWT) made everyone from dirt and we are all equal in that respect. I hope this helps and may Allah (SWT) grant us all Paradise. Amin

Assalaam alaikum,

You know it is interesting that you ask this question.

Of course we will all reply that one should never judge a person by the way they look.

However, we live in a world that encourages us to do that. If you ever watch TV it is the commercials that are the telling signs. We have to have perfect teeth. And once we have perfect teeth we have to have perfect toothpaste. Our skins must glow. And once it glows we must cover that glow. Our hair must shine ( not to exclude wigs and attachments). My favorite is a commercial that has a man using a hair drier. Somehow his blad head gets a full head of hair by using this tool. It reminds me of cotton candy machines. We can eat pills to melt away fat. We can inject ourselves with magic potions and look ten years younger in one hour. We can paint ourselves to look tan in five minutes. We can wear clothing that will make our bottoms round and our tops heavy. Or we can place plastic pouches in our bodies.

Why? So we can look good to others and they will include us. There is a commercial that advertizes if you wear a particular shoe you are running with the in crowd.

Oh well...where does that leave the soul? Our beauty is our soul. Our soul is the common denominator of humanity. We all come from the same soul.

We are taught to hate ourselves. And we are taught to divide and dispute. What a simple way of dividing and disputing. We are to look for differences and find fault.

If we open our hearts we see the beauty of Creation. I believe the Arabic word baseer is what we need.

Yes, it is wrong because in others we see a reflection of ourselves.

They consider every shout they hear to be directed against them. They are your utter enemies; guard against them. May Allah do away with them! How are they being turned away (from the Truth)?

Walaikumassalam

My take on the issue.

Many of us (Muslims) do judge each other just by physical beauty. To be honest it's quite natural to get attracted to a person who is more pretty, beautiful or whatever.I read somewhere that even babies can distinguish between a normal & a beautiful face.

People try to befriend them, are more responsive to them.

If one has to choose between a good looking person with good character and a normal person with good character, then how many of us would go for the latter one.??

Of course. It's wrong to judge a person just by their physical beauty.Allah just looks in our heart and sees our intention. The person having more taqwa(righteousness) is superior than the one having less taqwa.

We humans are imperfect. We have to constantly remind ourselves and struggle within to not judge a person by their physical beauty.

Assalaamu Alaikum,

Its the "instant age". So to quickly judge, even when there is no need to, is not need, but a form of greed? maybe. To judge based on looks has become 'a quick way of assessment'. Its defined by the "media", by the ads, its entered the psyche and has influenced the popular culture. Its far from reality. To scope it to one religion or community or nation, is wrong. An unwanted import, which does not really help.
"It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness" - Tolstoy

By prefixing physical to the word Beauty, it becomes suitable to confine to non living things. For humans, its is and should be 'skin deep'. And to add we humans are "imperfect", again is far from true. A mix of perfections and imperfections. Yes dont judge by looks is a correct approach.
